Sorry! Pulled the post because I realized that I shouldn't be judging others and then putting it on a public site...I was upset this weekend at my SIL because I love her and would hate to see her hurt herself/her baby...

Thanks everyone!

Re: Having trouble minding my own business!

IMO she should have really looked into what 'being pregnant' was going to mean to her... she should have known about the sacrifices she was going to have to make, and started making them before they TTC. She should have quit smoking months ago, this way she wouldn't have such a hard time with it now.
If I were you, I would have said something too. Its hard not to open your mouth when it comes to something as serious as this, AND when it hits so close to home.. you expecting your own baby.
I can only hope that she finds the strength to quit sooner than later... for her health and the health of her baby.

I personally think you should say nothing. If it bothers you I would just walk away from it. She knows its wrong to do and she should not be doing it, but i would not get involved in any of it. Just don't listen to her.

I actually know of two people who smoked through their pregnancies (cutting back) and it was their choice. I don't think any of us have a right to tell other people how to handle there pregnancies.

And personally I would only have a REAL issue with someone drinking or doing illegal drugs when pregnant. That has been proven to seriously damage a baby. Smoking and coffee drinking might not be the healthest of things to do for the baby but I would not get involved in saying anything to anyone about it.

Also, years ago many Mom's to be smoked through their pregnancies. Besides low birthweight i don't know if it has ever statistically been shown to cause anything other then that.

And by the way i am not a smoker and I would never smoke though my pregnancy.

I have to agree with you becuase I cant stand when pregnant women smoke and this is coming from a person who smoked until we were trying to conceive. Imo she should be thankful that she is pregnant and do everything she can to keep this pregnancy healthy- why would anyone want to chance a miracle that she has been blessed with at her age is beyond me even if statistically the chances are slim. My God Im not even eating a slice of deli meat this whole time beucase of a slight almost nill chance of a bad effect. And I cant see how smoking is better than quitting- I have heard that before but I just dont understand that theory. I would totally avoid her and if she asks you why are you avoiding her I would tell her straight out. Thats me.
