i hear ya! i just posted on BHB about something similar... a friends shower is this weekend... i am planning it with another one of her friends- this other friend suggested we buy thank you notes and have people write their addresses on them at the shower.... uhh... yeah ok!! TACKY!!!
what have things come to that we can't even take the time to personally thank somebody for a gift that spent time and money getting for us?! i don't care how buys people are... its just the right thing to do!!

And I have heard of this envelope thing being done before... I definitely agree with you it's pretty tacky.
If people can spend their hard earned money to buy you a gift take the time to go pick it out, wrap it, and buy a card and fill it out THE LEAST you can do is write them a thank you and address it yourself!!!! I personally think it looks really ungrateful & leaves a really bad taste in my mouth!

i dont think having people addressing the envelope is extremely tacky, but i wouldnt plan it for someones shower. But, i have to admit, when i was writing out the envelopes, i wish someone had done it for mine
i think the generic thank you is tacky, and even more so that she didnt write them herself.

but as far as addressing the envelopes, i dont see that as a big deal. Do you think labels are tacky?

No I dont think labels are tacky. They are much faster and neater. ( I had no choice but to do labels for my wedding invitations since I did scroll invitations and they were sent in tubes)
I just thought it was tacky that she didnt do it HERSELF.

Uh oh. I was going to have my MOH write out the thank you's because I have really bad handwriting.

If it is personalized people may not even realize it. But to just write 'thanks' is a little rude. I got a shower gift from someone who isnt attending the shower, she actually bought all of the towels off my registry her thank you said..

'I would just like to thank you for the beautiful towels. I cant wait to use them in my new bathroom!! blah blah blah...'

The MOH could have at least include a sentence or two so you acknowledge the thoughtfulness.

I have to ask you all a question...what do you think about the following:

You go to a party and with the favor is a generic thank you card...same thing where it just says thanks and signed by the person. No card mailed after the gift is open...no personalized message.

ICK! that is SO tacky!!!!!!!! good grief! everyone is busy! that's just rude, IMO!

IMO, if people take the time and spend good money on a gift, they should get a personalized thank you.

Thats the best part. She couldnt have personalized them b/c she did it before the shower took place!!! I was wondering how I got it back so fast!!! Thats also why they had no names on the inside!!! they were all exactly the same!

DH's family does this ALL the time. Every christening has the thank you card already on the gift. I really feel like it should be a personalized message.
