Re: Do you think this is rude? (sort of a FMIL issue)

it's wrong - and people I know who were invited to an e-party and not the wedding were put off.

It is, however, a very nice gesture on the part of your FMIL. Get her an etiquette book and let her read it for herself, that way you're not the bad one!

Good luck.

I think that its 100% wrong to invite people to an e-party that arent invited to the wedding and I also think its a bit much to ask of people having 2 parties that close together

I definitely think it is rude. If you invite people to the engagement party and not the wedding, they tend to think you did it just for the presents/$$$$.

I would definitely be hurt if that happened to me

The e-party guests should be people who are also invited to your wedding the same as your shower.

I don't think it's right, the eparty should be for people who are getting invited to the wedding...

If I were invited to an e-party and not the wedding I'd be very pissed off!!! Esp if your FMIL is expecting them to bring gifts! Sorry about this one, good luck trying to convince her! The etiquette book is a great idea!!

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!!!!!!I think that is ridiculous, I can't believe she doesn't see anything wrong with that. I'm sure the e-party that she is willing to pay for only consists of people that would be on her guest list and no one from your side. WOW, talk about nervy.

Definitely RUDE! I agree with the etiquette book idea.

DO anything in your power to NOT let her do this... It is rude and I would be so hurt and pissed if it happened to me... basically asking for a gift from people who arent 'good enough or close enough' to be invited to wedding...jmo

NO WAY!! SO RUDE!! If I were a guest I would think that it is a tacky way of getting more gifts. I would be mortified!

can you tell your fmil that although you appreciate the gesture, you'd rather not have an e-party?? i mean, an e-party, then a shower, then the wedding - all in just a matter of months is really asking a lot of people. not that you are to blame, i know you don't want the e-party. and yes, it is rude to invite people to the e-party but not the wedding.
