When Katie Couric interviewed the runaway bride, they made a big deal out the fact that she had a $50,000 for 600 people. I'm thinking, if they spent that much for 600 people in NY, they'd be eating on chinette and dixie cups!

My mom told me that my parents entire wedding at Jericho Terrace in 1976 cost them $3000!

I WISH my entire wedding at Jericho Terrace was costing us $3000!! Our final payment is more than that!!!

I've popped on wedding boards with people from other states and I agree that you can't compare the NYC/LI wedding to other places.

These girls were talking about not having dancing at their weddings, only having 2 hr receptions, just having punch and cheese, one is only having hors d'ovres (sp?). My friend's wedding in VA cost them $10,000 but they only had maybe 30 people and no courses. Just a dinner and a cake.

If weddings in other cities had what we had, they would be paying a lot too!!!

I agree...I get her emails and she has given me alot of good ideas about saving money and negotiating. Some of them are pretty obvious...but some have been really helpful.

It seems like everything in NY is just out of control. And it you end up paying $200 and plus a plate- you know for a fact that not everyone is going to give you that back in return. Not trying to sound selfish- but if I'm spending $200 a plate- I'd be really pissed if a family of four put $25 in the envelope.

ETA- But you know in the end- you were the one willing to pay that much and could have gone somewhere cheaper so you really can't blame your guests if the don't match what you pay per plate- BUT it would be nice!
