It's not just you. I feel the same way, what really gets me is people have told me to be prepared for the prices to be higher as soon as you mention it's for a wedding. I get it, everyone has to make a living but in my opinion, it's completely out of control.

I dont understand that either.
Just doesnt make any sense, they really arent doing much more then they would otherwise...

Yeah the prices are crazy...
If you are adding things on to your menu, don't do it when you sign your contract. I hear that if you wait they will give you a really good deal. HTH

Yeah, we're getting ripped off. Everything is way over priced. Maybe we should start a protest.

When Katie Couric interviewed the runaway bride, they made a big deal out the fact that she had a $50,000 for 600 people. I'm thinking, if they spent that much for 600 people in NY, they'd be eating on chinette and dixie cups!

I think its rediculous too. Just so you know. CLM was beautiful and I spent less than half that pp. FM me with any questions :)

Hence the reason I am getting married on a Sunday afternoon. The price difference between a Saturday night and a Sunday afternoon is enormous, and there was no way I was spending over 25 grand on my hall. My whole reception, for 135 people, and 4 vendors for next Sunday with an officiant, the ceremony, and tax and grat, is $13,856.00.

I know to get married on Long Island is way to expensive. Its good that you are planning over a year in advance. I def dont think my FI and I would be able to afford everything if we only had 1 year. Keep you heads up girls. It will def be all worth it.

Nothing in particular happened- but I was just thinking about the quotes I have been getting at halls I have visited so far- ranging from $160- $200 and +. Are you kidding me? Do you think it should really cost this much? Our parents will be helping us out, BUT for the most part I really want me and my FI to pay just because I feel like we're adults and should start taking financial responsibilites towards our future and what we want. We both have good jobs, but who the hell wants to spend over $80,000 to get married!

My mom told me that when she got married at Leonard's about 26 yrs ago they paid almost $25 a person for a Sat. night and they had everything. Could you believe that! I understand the economy changes and so forth- but seriously. It's so true - the wedding business is a money making field!!!!
Thanks for listening to me vent.....

160-200 is a lot of money..funny u mention Leonards...my mom said the same thing! hahah back in 1975!

But i know there are places cheaper than than...where have you looked that it is that much money? have u considered a sun or fri maybe it is cheaper.

we are doing chateau la mer i know sunday ae less than 100 and sat was 100 i believe....i know John anthonys was 90..i guess it depends where u are looking...but i think 160 -200 a plate is CRAZY

our wedding is well below this amount, but only because we're having 60 people at ours.

I'm SO GLAD that I don't have to worry about the wedding anymore.

Now, when planning parties and vendors try to 'upsell' me, I just say, 'I already had my fairytale wedding. I'm done with the frills. This is my budget- what can you do?' Then, all of a sudden, they stop their crap.

not to be nitpicky, but for the 1970's, $25 per head WAS A LOT! My friends parents got married in the late 1970's and only paid $16 per person at a big hall in NJ

You don't even want to look at prices for the rest of the country.

(I read the wedding community on LiveJournal occasionally - and it KILLS me to see brides complaining because they'll post that the place they reeeeaaaaallly really love is SOOOOOOO expensive. And then they post that it will cost $30pp. I always want to post 'honey, you don't KNOW expensive')

(Of course, I don't think weddings outside of LI/NYC metro are usually like our weddings - I went to one in San Diego recently - the 'cocktail hour' was a bowl of punch, a few carafes of wine and a keg, plus a platter of fruit and cheese.)

that's probably why people in other states give a $25 picture frame as a wedding gift.
