You can go to the garden city post office on stewart avenue. they are a main hub so they do all of the hand cancelling out of there. I gave them about 180 invited and they did them all with no charge. Hicksville post office does this too

Good Luck!

what's with the extra charge? The Hicksville PO does that too w/o a charge.

Did a post office in Baldwin RVC give you a hard time? Which one? I will know to stay AWAY!

No post office should be charging you extra for hand cancelling. Go to another post office. I have 90 invitations hand cancelled, it took less than ten minutes, and it wasn't complicated.

ETA: I see you're in Manhattan - I took mine in Bklyn, if you want to meet up I work by GC, and have no problem taking them to the post office I went to in Bklyn.

I REALLY need your help, I tried having my invitations hand cancelled and they wouldn’t do it. First they said that I had to pay .05 cents for any amount over 50, so I said fine, it would mean paying $3. Then he says but that they won’t do it because this is usually a courtesy service and that they were too busy, WHAT its 8am in the morning there were 3 tellers open and there wasn’t no one on line or in the post office. I was so pissed, I have just had it with the post office, if you read my Postal vent post you know what I’m talking about.

So I need your help ladies FH & I will be in Long Island tomorrow, can anyone recommend a post office in Nassau that hand cancelled there invitations with no problem. Near the Baldwin/Rockville Centre area is preferable. (FYI- I have 120 invitations)TIA

I was told .90 each at my local USPS The clerk told me that and I thought it was BS so I spoke to the supervisor and she told me .90 too I do think it was a lie and that they just didn't want to do it - and it was my second trip to the USPS so I only had like TEN invites!!!!

You know after dealing with people who are so rude, inconsiderate and down rigth lazy,, Its nice to know there are sweeties like you around Christine. You know how stressful this whole wedding process can be at times, so your offer is truly appreciated. From one crazy bride to another THANKS

I think it's time to report your post office to 'Shame on You!' These stories are insane! This part of the process shouldn't be so hard! Good luck on LI!!!

I would honestly not stress it. I hate to tell you this, but most invites go through the meter anyway. And one of my friends took hers to be hand cancelled and they lied to her and meter cancelled them. Her invite arrived fine. Unless your invite is super thick, I would just drop it in the mailbox. Don't stress over it!!

I agree with this.. Isn't the invite going to go therough the sorter also, how else to they sort by zip code where the mail goes?
I honestly rarely get mail that is destroyed. I have a bunch of friends who sent their invites the 'regular' way, and they were fine.

TOTALLT AGREE!! don't stress about this little thing... they have to go through sorting machines to get where they are going anyway.... DH is an engineer and he worked at the postal sorting center on a job one day, and said you wouldn't belive the machines they have to go through to get sorted to go where they need to go..... that part of the process can't be avoided.... and really if you think about it, how often do you get mail that is totally detroyed? and if your guests really care so much about what the envelope looks like, they have bigger problems.... LOL
sorry! this is just one of my pet peeves because i just feel like its the last thing brides need to be stressing about.

Yep, they all arrived fine but I was pissed about being lied to

Take your invites to the post office at Roosevelt Field. The ladies there were really nice and they did the hand cancelling without me even asking. We were in and out in under ten minutes. Good luck!
