Re: Cousin Eloped!

I can imagine your surprise! But I look at it this way. She is sharing it with you, just after the fact. Perhaps they thought it more romantic to take off and do it, just for them. Just reading some of the stressful wedding planning stories on this board makes the idea of eloping more appealing to me!! Maybe she didn't want to deal with the hassle of planning, and just wanted it to be a private thing between her and her husband. And now that they are happily married, they would like to share their joy with the family. Are you going to send a gift? I don't even know what is appropriate...

Hey!!! i think its good news... i would have loved to elope like a million times.. i do think its odd that since you havent spoken to her in 10 years that they sent this to you., but if you are planning to invite her to your wedding i would def get her a gift.. some crystal.. if you go bargain hunting you can buy a gift that is very beautiful the is not so costly...(ill help you!!!

My cousin did the same thing last year...2 months after her sister got married!!! I didn't get an announcement but my parents did so I didn't send anything but I think my parents sent a family gift.

You are not required to send a gift when receiving an announcement. Your cousin is just letting her family know that she is now married. It is the proper way to tell extended family the news.

I don't think you should judge her though. I think many people have financial, family etc..situtions and eloping is a way of getting married in a very private and romantic way. Trust me, I have thought of the idea more than once.

If you want, you can send her a nice card or a gift. It is up to you.Personally I would probably get her a small gift, such as a frame or nice address book.

I wish you tons of happiness.
