Re: my work won't let me take time for the wedding!
Is it the days off for the Honeymoon that you are looking for?? Can you still get married the date you wanted and take your HM a different time??

Well ... I have to admit that he has his point in saying that you could do it in those days that you are not working. If that was my case, I would get married on a weekend, and move the HM to a later date ... November is not so far from the Xmas break.

MY FH is a NYC teacher and we are getting married in March 2004 on a Sunday, he is taking off 3 days afterwards - using 3 sick days to go on a mini moon to NYC and then in the summer we are going away on our real honeymoon. The prices in March are great and you still can go back to work 2-3 days later and have the honeymoon over the summer, or better yet schedule it around Easter vacation. Good luck!

That s*cks!!! No offense to any teachers but my son is in 10th grade & I can't even remeber all the different elective surgeries & weird days off his teachers have taken over the years. I was class mother & very involved in the PTA all through elementary school & the teachers were always off for something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have personal days & sick days don't you? I'm pretty sure you can use your personal days for whatever you'd like! Good Luck, I hope it works out for you!

I am not a teacher, but I know Marnles (another member) is in the school system and got married during term time, and honeymooned in the next vacation. Can you get at least one day off??

I am also a teacher and I am getting married in November, the week before Thanksgiving. I am taking two days off before my wedding and then the three days off before Thanksgiving. I think we are going to do a mini moon and then a full honeymoon in December or I might just take off the whole week after my wedding so I can take my 10 day honeymoon right after I get married. I never wanted a summer wedding and I do not think that just because I am a teacher I should be limited to when I can get married.

Most teachers that I know, were not able to take a honeymoon during school, so they got married when they wanted to but then took their HM on a break. I don't think they are being unreasonable, think about if you were the director and next thing you know she let's you and then everyone esle will want to do the same, and it can get out of control.

Re: my work won't let me take time for the wedding!
My friend got married the Friday night the week before Thanksgiving and called in sick the M-W before Thanksgiving. Took a week honeymoon in Sandals and came home. She like you didn't want to wait for a break or the next summer (she already had a long engagement due to a conflict with her sister and cousin's weddings). The only issue she had was finding a honeymoon destination for that week...so if you go that route book in advance because that is a busy travel week. She said her school was PO'ed for a while but eventually got over it.
If you really think something like that won't work, then get married in Nov and have your honeymoon in February (take a weekend trip in the meantime).

Re: my work won't let me take time for the wedding!
I'm NYC teacher and we have been advised to be careful when we take off of work. If we want to take any personal days (for personal business), we need to fill out a form asking permission for taking personal days and have to get it approved by the principal. If we call in 'sick' even though we are not sick, and let's say, go away on a vacation and then suddenly need some sort of medical assistance, we will not be covered by our insurance. Our principal has told us horror stories about teachers who have snuck away on mini-vacations, got sick, and discovered that their insurance did not cover any medical assistance. I'm sure the principal may be using this as a scare tactic, but I think NYC is cracking down on teachers absences.

I am a NYC teacher and got married in February of 2002. Sometimes you have to chance things.........we chanced the weather and wound up with a 60 degree day in February. Just think how nice a warm weather honeymoon is in the middle of February...............and my principal and district were forever grateful to me.............
