Re: FMIL DRIVING US CRAZY

i think you should do it when you want to.... FH and I got engaged first and then some family members of ours followed. His bro is getting married this may and his cousin 2 months after me. My cousin is getting married 3 months before me. I am not throwing a big tiff over it because i honestly don't care.. i am just happy for them and i know my wedding will be different than theirs... so if you want to have it in April and you are paying for it, then have it in April!!

Re: FMIL DRIVING US CRAZY

6 months is more then enough time in between weddings! Listen to my crazy super close wedding stories: FBIL and his fiancee (my friend of over 13 years!!) were engaged for almost 2 years with NO planning when FH and I got engaged this past June. They had absolutely NO plans set for their wedding so FH & I set our date for September 26,2009. Well about 1 month later FBIl and my friend set their date for....brace yourselves....September 5,2009!!! Yes that's right 3 weeks before our wedding and FH has alot of out state family including his mom!! Anyway I freaked out about this I wasn't changing our date and they didn't see areaon to change their date . So now poor FH's family has 2 weddings in September 3 weeks apart! So like I said 6 months is more then enough time

I think that you should get married in April if you want. 6 months is more than enough for the family to recover.

It is not like your getting married 2 weeks or 1 month before.

Re: FMIL DRIVING US CRAZY

when i got engaged my engaged-for-1-year brother said You'd better not get married before me. i seriously considered it because i want a summer wedding and i didnt want to wait 19 months. i thought about doing it 6 months before his but that was too soon- that means i would have exactly 4 months to plan. so i had to go with the long wait.

bottom line- i respected his wishes but only after considering mine first!

Re: FMIL DRIVING US CRAZY

I know close weddings may not be ideal.. but life happens and you can't revolve your life around everyone elses. Do what makes you happy!

My close friend is getting married May 24th.
I'm getting married June 13th.
My FM's BM is getting married June 20th (we will miss the wedding because we already booked our HM )

Point is.. Life happened.. that's just the way it worked out. It's not ideal and we will all miss some of each other's plannings or in our case... their big day, but we will celebrate with them in their joy and love! It's my personal opinion that marriage is about the covenant 2 people and making between God. Therefore, only you, your FM, and God need to be concerned about when you make it. Everyone else is there to celebrate with you. JMO

Re: FMIL DRIVING US CRAZY

Ok, so as someone in a similar situation, let me give my opinion. Yes, there is some etiquette involved here, but 6 months is MORE than enough space between the two weddings. My fh and i set our date and let the family know right away so my cousin and his fiance could set theirs and they decided to completely disregard us and set theirs for 3 weeks before ours...THAT is rude and inconsiderate...but you and your fh wanting to set your date in april is COMPLETELY fine. I would say as long as there is about 2 buffer months between the weddings, that's plenty of distance between them.

As a side note, as someone whose family member chose to be completely disrespectful for mine/fh's feelings, i can totally appreciate you actually caring enough about your family's feelings to make this post, so thanks I hope everything works out!

i think that despite what FMIL says, it's your life! don't ever ever live your life and make big decisions based on every body else's thoughts. maybe i'm just b*tchy, but i'd do what i want. you want to, do it! you deserve to be happy and do what you have to do to make yourself happy!! JMO, sorry if i'm too opinionated, but that would annoy me :o) you only get to be at the point in your life once, do it the way you really want to, because you want to look back and feel that happiness! good luck with what you decide
