Re: Upset

Who the hell is she to say she won't ALLOW your brother to go?

I'd call her bluff. I wouldn't want your brother to be in the middle of this but he needs to man up and say he's attending, no matter what.

ugh, ballsy!

Re: Upset

This really stinks - I'm with you, I'm not a big fan of children being at a wedding.

Can you talk to your brother?? That would be RIDICULOUS if your own brother couldnt be at the wedding b/c this situation.

I know you want to have the flower girl but if your SIL really wont move on this - maybe just can the flower girl so you can have your bro and SIL at the wedding?!?!

Re: Upset

oh my!! I think it was really nice of you to offer that service for the reception!!!! You do what you want, that it not unreasonable. And your SIL and Brother should definitely be at the reception, no questions asked.

Re: Upset

That's really lame of her. Really, really lame. I guess decide whether you want to stick your ground because you're not wrong, or you could just say the girl can come and not other kids because she's in the wedding party. I think reasonable people understand that.

We are having an Adult Only reception with the exception of Immediate family...maybe you could make the same exception??? I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. I can't believe that some people are really like this!

Re: Upset

wow, that is complete BS. I hope that your brother tells her to stick it where the sun doesn't shine and comes for you. I'm sorry about the kids though, that is just so WRONG of her to do! Would your brother be able to bring the kids and just leave her at home to sulk? Maybe then she would get the point.

Re: Upset

I don't understand what the big deal is, a lot of couples have adult only weddings, why can't she just **** it up!!! It's your day not hers!!!!!!!!!

Re: Upset

I'd try not to make too big an issue of it now. You mentioned that they're having problems in their relationship. Hopefully, those issues will be resolved and she'll be in a better frame of mind by the time of the wedding.

And just because you may need to invite your brother's kids to the reception does not mean that you hvae to invite everybody else's kids. We had our niece and nephews in the bridal party and those were the only children invited to the wedding. Others who asked about bringing their kids were politely told that the only children that would be at the wedding were those in the bridal party.

My nephews were 5 and 6 at the time of the wedding, which was an evening wedding. They stayed at the reception for a bit after being introduced, but it's a long day for them, so we had a baby sitter in the bridal suite for when they got tired.

Good luck!

Re: Upset

ok I think your sister is being a control freak and using this situation to manipulate your brother. I don't see what the big deal is that her kids are with a sitter. Its not her call to decide if her kids run rampant or not in your wedding.

I think you should wait it out and then bring it up specifically to your brother alone. forget having that kid in your bridal party though. FSIL is controlling that situation.

Re: Upset

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm having an adult-only reception as well, but making an exception for my 5 nieces and nephews. I don't think anyone will complain about that. Could you do something along those lines? Either way, it is your wedding and you SIL should not be dictating to you what you need to do on your special day. She's out of line.

Wow, the fact that your having an adult only reception and still including her children should be an honor to her! I know a lot of brides who wouldn't do that and for her to tell you that's 'retarded' is so messed up! I really hope she comes to her senses and things work out for you guys.

we are doing adults only with the exception of everyone in the bridal party. I only have 2 other kids on my side of the family (10 and 12) and I made them ushers so I could 'techically' invite them to teh reception....she is being selfish and rude, family drama is the worst!

hope things work out!

Re: Upset

wow- that is insane. I am sorry you have to deal with that.

I don't even get why people would want to bring their kids. I mean who doesn't need a fun night out- without the little ones around?

Re: Upset

Wow she is being really inconsiderate to you and your brother...Maybe she is just having her own issues and needs to take it out somewhere..hopefully she snaps out of it ...give it a rest for a few days to not aggravate yourself...then maybe just have a heart to heart with your brother. Weddings really bring out the best in ppl i'm learning...LOL

Re: Upset

i think that she is blackmailing you and is probably having trouble with something in your life, maybe her relationship with your brother and is taking it out on everyone else.
with that said, if i was you, i would call her bluff and tell her that children will not be allowed at your wedding and that she is welcome to come and you would still love to have her niece as the FG at the wedding and the offier of a babysitter still stands. She can say what she wants now, but i highly doubt that your brother would miss your wedding no matter what she says.

However, and this is jmo, people really exaggerate what kids do at weddings. kids really don't throuw their hands into the cake and run amok the entire evening. if it came down to it, intive her kids, and if anyone asks, which they shouldn't because YOU are paying for the wedding, not them and it is bad manners to even ask, just tell them that only your brothers children were invited because he is your brother. however, if your FH has young nieces/nephews then they should be invited as well.

Re: Upset

Do you think your brother would really miss your wedding because of her???.. maybe shes just really protective over her kids and dont trust babysitters - because I dont understand why she would think thats a bad idea i think its good and thanks to you , I might do the same at my wedding. Shes being a little unreasonable. maybe she was just in a bad mood when you spoke to her. Try talking to her about it again at a later time.
