Re: Photographer assistant???

I'd think it would be the photogrpaher's decision, yeah. But I guess it also depends on if he's gonna raise his prices if he brings an asst - you should ask

Sometimes if they add one, it will cost more!

Just make sure you ask about additional cost!

Re: Photographer assistant???

Y aknow.Ive been going back and forth about that and the truth is you may not even need an assistant..I wouldnt necessarily pay extra for one..my sister had a GREAT wedding three years ago, and yes..I am partial, she is my sister ..but her wedding was wonderful ..my point is, she had one photographer and her pictures are amazing! My guess is you may need an assistant if you have a BIG wedding, in my sisters case, she only had around 100 people and the photograher didnt miss a thing. (Your guests will be taking pictures as well.) Hope that helps.

I personally think it's needed, JMO. I had 2 photographers and an asst - he helped them with lighting, film, etc. he ran around all day!

I am getting an assistant, he/she is only going to cost an eatra $100. But I have a HUGE wedding party. 26 in total with FH and I included, and then 2 ring bearers and a Flower girl. Plus 3 sets of parents. I do think my photographer will need help rounding everyone up and getting in positions quicker. But If you have an average sized wedding party, I don't think an assistant is neccessary. It is the talent of the photographer that gives you beautiful pics. And of course you and FH will be beautiful no matter what!

Re: Photographer assistant???

Sometimes an assistant is really helpful. I wanted one. They help with lighting and other stuff. If you are taking pics outside the lighting helps take away shadows on you, etc.

Example: if you are taking pics on a sunny day at noon, the sun is overhead. The shadows with me right under your eyes (don't want to look like you have bags or dark circles).

It is not absolutely necessary, it is more of a preference and budget. I know people who didn't have assistants and they didn't have any problems with shadows and stuff.

My photojournalist came alone, but my color photographer did bring and assistant. It was very, very helpful, and I can't imagine that she had been alone. It did not cost me any extra, I only had one more to tip and to feed (the hall gives you especial rates for DJ, photographers, etc).
