Re: Please help me!

I say if you're prepared for the extra costs.. go for it.. it will be unique and lovely.

As for time of the year.
Heck.. who knows.. look at this summer.. rained nearly the whole time!!! Hottest month is Aug.. try for maybe Early - Mid Sept or Late May.

Re: Please help me!

Sounds like the space is beautiful and just want you've been searching for. However, the only thing you can't control is the weather. If you are the brave type, I say go for it. But if you're like me, and ALREADY stressing about the weather, I wouldn't do it.

I do know of a couple that planned an outdoor wedding in September and it rained. It didn't rain heavy and with the sides of the tent down and heaters on, they were fine. However, I also know a couple who planned a June wedding right on the beach with nothing but a tent and port-o-potties and it POURED. It was actually a hurricane (who would have figured that in June?) and they literally could not have the reception in the tent. They moved it to a restaurant at the last minute but only b/c her family knew the owners was this even possible.

So, unfortunatley, I don't have solid advice for you. I would say June and Septmber are usually beautiful months but again, it rained the entire month of June this year. I think you are fine even if it does rain as long as there is no severe weather.

Go for it. The tents you can rent are so elaborate, you get ones with detachable sides complete with windows. You can even have the tent climate controlled if you need to close it in. I would research September....still summery enough for the beach location and doesn't really have the rep of being a rainy month. Sounds like it's going to be gorgeous!

Re: Please help me!

I would go for it. But be prepared its a ton of extra work to put something like this together.

For shelter and comfort - A real tent with sides that can come down, portable heat or air conditioning units, lights and a dance floor will work beautifully. Port O Sans well they are what they are.

For your menu - Is there a kitchen available or will your caterer have to bring everything in already cooked and just heat and serve?

Rentals - Tables, chairs, place settings, some caterers will do this for you

Power - Will you need a generator or will you have power available for the lights, band/dj, caterer

Im sure there are a ton of other things to consider. Good Luck with your planning

Re: Please help me!

Just in case, on the property are there any options for a Plan B indoors in case of rain?

Re: Please help me!

no kitchen. was thinking of a bar-b-que type of dinner. shrimp, chicken, steak kebobs, grilled salmon, steak, rice or potatoes etc.

we don't mind the cost, but we wouldn't go too overboard. i really don't think there would be a need for heaters or a/c. if we are going to do it, i'll look into it though.

i have a few caterers in mind that have experience in beach weddings.

thanks again

Plan B = Tent Sidewalls. No inside facilities

Re: Please help me!

I'd be a bit hesitant to do anything like that on LI. The weather is just too unpredictable and I'd be a nervous wreck. If we lived in the Caribbean I'd say go for it! Plus, a port-a-potty to me in so gross, I would want my guests to have access to some type of bathroom facility. That's JMO though.

The bigger issue is weather....unless you could use a room nearby in case it does rain, I'd be too afraid to not have any other real back up plan. Either that, or a huge professional tent that can be put up for the day.

I think it sounds beautiful, but I too would be hesitant for a few reasons.

The air conditioning in the summer is a big thing. Can this be dine in tents. It may be o.k. for you and younger guests, but any older guests may be very uncomfortable, or unable to stay if too hot or humid.

The potties, are they going to be accomodating to older guests as well, or any with any kind of disabilities.

Weather - but that is always a factor on LI no matter what time of year it is.

Maybe you can do a beach ceremony and than have the reception somewhere indoors, or something with and indoor/outdoor facility.

Re: Please help me!

OK...I heard that Oct is a dry month...but of course it poured at my sisters wedding...

my firned got married on labor day and it was a DOWNPOUR the whole day...it was outside with a tent...but we had a blast!!! inthe beginning she was upset...but then didn't even care that the bottom of her dress was muddy...are you this type of person?

can I make a suggestion? Why not have the ceremony on the beach and then use the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport for the reception...for Just in case...maybe you could work out a deal with the caterer to prepare for either location and be willing to pay the site fee use at Vanderbilt...so you have a rain plan...

Re: Please help me!

Many years ago I would help my friend who catered and did alot of weddings.Id do it for extra money occasionally and one time she needed me to bartend...I got to the place and it was an outside wedding. It wsa ina park , surrounded by trees..it was like we were in the woods, it was tented with beautiful lights..what Im trying to gte at was it did rain for awhile and it was STILL amazing. The guests didnt mind ONE BIT, they stayed dry, they had a floor put down so noone got grass stained and everyone had a great time. i didnt even know these people..but I can honestly say that it was one of the best weddings Ive ever seen. It was absolutely beautifull...so I say if you want a beach wedding, the place in Huntington on the water sounds PERFECT!!! So what if it rains..set up a tent and noone will even notice, youll be drinking and eating and having a great time..I say GO FOR IT!!!!!

Re: Please help me!

I Think I already said this..but just in case..you can put donw a wooden floor so that if it DOES rain, the ground wont get muddy, noones shoes get ruined or dresses for that matter. Everyone is happy!

I responded on the '04 board. I think if this is your dream, then go for it. I think July is a notoriously beautiful month, weather wise - hardly any rain. August is always hot & muggy - nothing wrong with that, but for an outdoor wedding with no reprieve (ie: no a/c) from the heat, it should be a consideration. I think early Sept is beautiful - gets a little nippy though come 6'ish...

Re: Please help me!

of course you need to put the ground on...especially for a dance floor...but my friend got muddy just from the torrential rain...

also...I think you need a/c for the humidity

Re: Please help me!

I wouldn't. I'm sorry, but weddings are so stressful. I wouldn't worry about weather unneccessarily. August is Hurricane Month! G-d forbid. They all happen in August in NY. and June was awful every weekend this year. September is pretty good, but could be cool in late sept? and, July would be perfect!
