Xpost 2010: When to go to a Baker?

Is anyone not taking the cake from their RH if the RH is giving one in their package? Anyone ordering a cake through a baker in general?

My FH and I really have our heart set on a specific cake so we will most likely forgo the 'free' cake. (unless our idea is very costly)

When should we start looking at bakers? Any suggestions?

you don't need to order your cake till like 4 months before my wedding is in 5 and i haven't gotten mine yet and every bakery i go to says i have plenty of time to make a decision
