She didn't invite them! They got no formal invite and they WON'T get one. Just don't send it. SHE will look like the *******, not you, and basically it's her problem. Don't let her buly you around. Tell her it's too late, they won't be on the invitation loist and that's it. She has a LOT of nerve. I am FURIOUS for you

I would be pissed off too! You have every right to be angry. Just be firm and stand your groud. These people weren't invited. She has no right to do that! You don't have to send them an invite. Good luck!!

Re: Can you believe this? Very Pissed Off
I could SO see my FMIL doing this to me. I mean you're the one paying for it. It's awful
My FMIL decided to make me look bad with our engagement announcements. When we got engaged I sent out engagement announcements basiclaly only to immediate family. I have a HUGE family and it would have been impossible to call them all, so I sent them to immediate family only. FH's family all got in an uproar b/c they didn'get one (we're talkng like 2nd and 3rd cousins here) when tey woudn;t even have KNOWN about it if not for FMIL telling them about it. And a relative asked FMIL why she didn't get one and instead of defending us and telling the truth, which is that we ONLY sent it to first cousins and aunts and ucnles, she said 'well you were on MY list to get one, but they didn't send you one' They made us look SO freaking bad.
Also part of the reason we didn't send it to everyone was that we had 3 years until the wedding, we were both still in college and we had no idea hwo we would and would not be able to invite to the wedding, so to keep it on the safe side, I only sent it to immedaite family. BLAH. My FILs fought me over it so much. I mean WHY. it was something I *chose* to do. Most people don't even send them... FMIL said so herself, and now since I didn't send it to EVERYONE...now it's a requirement, and I've offended the whole family.
haha..sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread! maybe we cna jjuust commiserate

DO NOT send them an invitation!!! Even if you were having a large wedding that you weren't paying for, I wouldn't invite them That is horrible of your FMIL. If she gives you a problem, then tell her to fork over the money for these strangers plate, favor, etc. Unbelievable!!

Your FMIL should pay for the added people. Also, if they don't get an invite, they are not invited. If your FMIL won't pay and she is still insisting, ask her for her co-workers phone number and call them and explain quite clearly that although you would like to have everyone at the wedding, your budget and space does not allow it. Before, you do so, tell your FMIL that you will put the ownes on her for the miscommunication.
Note to new brides, when you get engaged, take everyone in your immediate family out for a nice dinner and tell them all how much you love them and that they are not permitted under any circumstance to invite anyone to your wedding unless approved by you and your FH. If they are paying for it, that's another thing.

I agree your FMIL should pay for these extra people if she wants them there so badly.

I agree!! It is not so easy to invite extra people when you are the one footing the bill!!!

I would be LIVID!!! I am sure there are plenty of 'meet and greets' for people to meet people in NY -they don't have to attend weddings of strangers!

Okay, I totally don't get this! If they are not paying for the wedding what gives them the right to be benevolent to the world. I could understand if they were paying or even contributing but.....what??????????

OMG! I'd be so very PO like you are. I would seriously send her a bill for those 5 people - all itemized, this is how much their meal is, this is how much their CP is, this is how much their favor's are....if you continue to invite people prior to our knowledge, you will have to pay for it.
I did it to my FMIL and my Mother....after I gave them an itemized bill for their guests, they shut up and never asked again about another person.
It's YOUR wedding, and YOU are paying for it.

I can't believe her! Oh you must be furious. Want to return the favor.....tell her that in spite of her asking people to your wedding and because she cannot control herself from inviting stragers so they can meet and greet....you will have no choice but to have an 'invitation only' request for the banquet manager. Anyone without your invitation will not be allowed into the hall. When people start asking WHY??? You can say that your FNIL (future nut in law) invited strangers from work so they can overcome their shyness. Just ridiculous she is. I hope your fiance' makes her feel so stupid.

Re: Can you believe this? Very Pissed Off
She sounds unbelievably selfish and thoughtless. It's not even (just) the money...I'd be totally pissed off about having 5 strangers at my wedding to begin with. It sounds like you and FH have been extremely generous in allowing your families to add a huge amount of guests...look what you get in return - ugh.

Re: Can you believe this? Very Pissed Off
I would be POd if I were you too. No one is officially invited until they get a formal invitation so don't send them one. Or explain to your FMIL that if she continues to invite total strangers she will be paying for them.
