Posted by Jenn524 Shea stadium really is not in too much of a better area. Have you ever walked around the streets there? It's not like you're walking through Garden City.
Its not nearly as bad as Yankee Stadium. The difference is... there really isn't anything around Shea Stadium. You have the auto yards right next to the stadium... but you also have beautiful Flushing Meadows Park on the other side... as well as the US Tennis Center. The closest towns would be Corona and Flushing, which isn't nearly as bad as the South Bronx.
I 100% agree that Shea stadium is in a better area, but it's still not a great area. I wouldn't be talking too much smack about the area around Yankee stadium when Shea isn't much better off.
Jenn -- now you're the one that's reaching -- there's no comparison between the area around Yankee Stadium and the area around Shea. The area around 161st street is a dump

I disagree. I've hard to park my car on the streets when I've been to Shea and all I'm saying is it's not a great area.
I'm agreeing with you that Yankee stadium is in a worse area. But let's not come off here as if Shea is in a country club setting. That's all I'm saying.

agreed, and that's my point. It's comparing crap to more crap in terms of location. I wouldn't walk around either area by myself late at night.

OK...I've held off long enough. Time to jump into the fray.
For those of you who do not know me. I am Felicia's FH. (not DH...that's an American League thing). I am also a die hard Mets fan.
Now, for those thinking 'How could these two sworn enemies possibly have a relationship, much less get married?' Well, like star-crossed lovers in old novels written by scribes of long ago....we make do. (Mostly by me setting parental controls for the YES Network on the cable box)
When I first met Felicia, we agreed to keep baseball out of the relationship. But, slowly as the race for the rings (not the gold ones being put on our fingers in 17 days 5 hours 46 minutes and 32 seconds, but the World Series type) heats up....so did our rivalry. The bickering and back-biting came to a fever-pitch with the much anticipated Subway Series.
When the Mets proved victorious, Felicia became a different person.
The colors lost their clarity, the days blurred from one to another. Her vaunted Yankees had lost to the team from Flushing. She, like her team... was defeated.
I have to hand it to her though. She sucked it up and kept her end of the bet. As a matter of fact...she wasted no time getting into my Mets gear and posing for the picture. Some of the lustre and gloating was lost for me because she was so gracious in doing what she knew she had to do.
Now, you may not think that taking a picture in an opposing team's jersey is that big of a deal. To Felicia it is. I was worried for second that she would spontaneously combust when the Mets jersey touched her skin (I had a fire extinguisher on standby).
So, Felicia...my darling future wife. My (green Mets Irish night) hat off to you. You came through and paid the piper. You may not root for the best team in NY, but at least you've got taste in men.

Ohhhhh NO , who let YOU on this site!!??!!! LOL
Well my darling future hubby to be, thanks (I think) for coming on here to , uh, 'defend' me (though I'm not sure you were really defending me , just trying to explain the pain I'm experiencing due having to leave my pic up there plastered in METS garb...)
I will agree with one and only point you'd made .. yes, I do have great taste in men .. not my fault that somewhere along the way you actually started believing that the MUTTS were the best team in NY

Well said DMAG!
Are you going to be in full mets gear for Joe's get together in August? I am trying to get my FW to take off work... but i think she already exceeded her personal day limit. Bah.

awwwwww -- i'm sorry, why don't you file a formal protest, you can stand in line behind torre and posada
Funny Don! The Yankees can never accept a loss. There's always an excuse to why they lost...bla bla bla get over it. I am sooooooooooooooooo thrilled the Mets swept the Yankees. I was in my glory gloating to all the yankee fans that bust my chops about the mets. Gosh I can't believe we swept the so called 'greatest' team in baseball.

As DMAG's FW, I do NOT think he'll be wearing 'full Mets gear' if I'm around ... then again we'll be married by August so who knows what he'll be up to He'll probably just leave me behind

Naturally! I'll be busy trying to get my track times below you and Crash's! (and seeing exactly how fast a Hemi runs in the 1/4 on the road outside) Hope your FW can get the day off...after all this time I've still never met her!
No softball game in Queens this year?

Forget your Intrepid game in Queens , boys .. did you see the thread about the idea for a Yanks/Mets fans game posted by LIWs .... we're going to have to battle it out, dearest
DjPill -- tell your FW to really try to get the day off for the outing.. with Anthony and you together, I'll need another Yankee fan in my corner

Re: Yankee Fans: By The Way...
I didnt do an Intrepid softball game this year because of Carlisle and I figured Joe would have another meet up there.
Besides... this softball game sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
We just have to pick a date for it.
How bout August 15th?

Ok that sounds good... if one of the regulars here want to organize this and start a list... perhaps in a new thread... I am all for it.
