YAY - the dress from he!! - is GONE!!! Update below

Well, a little background... I ordered my mom's gown from a bridal store in Patchogue on March 9. At the time, I was told if I pay a rush charge, the dress will ship April 18.

Fast forward to April 19... I call them to check on the status of the dress and was told it was going to ship May 2. Uhm, NO! I was promised I would have it by the end of April and I paid extra to have it then.

So, last Friday, I call to find out where the dress is... Sorry, the shipping department is closed, they tell me. Uhm, I really don't care. I was promised a dress by the end of April and that is tomorrow, I tell her.

She tells me she can't help, someone will check and call back, blah blah. Again, fast forward to the end of the day and I get the rush charge back.

I call this past Monday, and guess what?! The dress is in! My mom and I go there to pick it up and we both say at the same time, it's the wrong color! The woman just about hits her jaw on the floor. But the color is ok, so my mom tries it on. NOw, when she ordered it, they recommended she get a size 22 (she normally wears a 14/16). So we take their 'professional' advise and get it. But when she tries it on, it's HUGE on her!

At this point, we are both fuming, but stoopid us, we say, we'll take it and have the seamstress alter it.

TODAY, we go to the seamstress and guess what?! It's beyond alteration!!! It's huge in every direction and no matter what bra she wears (my mom's got a huge chest), the bra shows. The seamstress says it's almost too much work to do and will cost a fortune and to try and return the dress.

I'm SO UPSET right now! And my mom is beside herself.

OMG...I would be beyond mad!!!!

First off, your mom still has time b4 your wedding. I'm sure she will find something that is perfect.

Second, I'm soooo sorry you had to go through this with your shop....what stress. They have to compensate you in some way or do something to appease you.

OH MY GOD!!!! that is CRAZY!!!!!!!

they measured your mom wrong and now it's YOUR problem to deal with!????????????? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!

I would go there and ask to speak with the owner so he/she can make good on THEIR mess up! that is unacceptable!!

I would go back and demand they get the right dress in the right color in the right size and get it sent out express at no extra charge!

They probably won't do anything about the size (your mom probably signed something taking responsibility for the size), but you could fight them about the color.

Was it the shop's seamstress who told you it was beyond alteration? (I once had a size 16 altered to a 6, so I find it hard to believe that anything too big is beyond alteration.)

grrr....

WOW!! WHat poor service. I swear some of these bridal shops suck balls. I really do not know what keeps them in business.

I hope they would do something about the size! That was a ridiculous mis-measurement. THese shops really should do their research to figure out what size works for which designer.

A friend of mine had a similar problem with them. They ordered her sisters dress in 3 sizes to small and the dress did not come in until a week before the wedding but on a brighter note they got everything right and the dress looked perfect. So just keep on top of them your mom's dress will come in on time and things will work out. Make sure that the store does not charge you for alterations they wasted your time and your mom's they should compensate you for the time that you had to waste. Good Luck

OMG!!! A friend of mine had the same experience w/ her mom. I wonder if it's the same store? I would try to go to Estelles ASAP, I also recommend going to this great dress shop on main street in Babylon village. I don't remember the name, but the are really helpful. They have great stuff for the MOB. I don't remember the name, but it's across the street from the church right on Main street in the village. It will work out, it's horrible you had to go through that.

I would definetly go in there and get them to exchange it. That is ridiculous. They can not expect you to just eat the dress!

I know what store you are talking about. I would fight them tooth and nail about the rush charge and the color (even though you said it would be okay). As far as the size, a lot of dress shops order really big sizes so that they can make more money from alterations. Did you go to the seamstress from the store? If you did, it looks like you are being set up again for a high alteration bill. If you didn't go to her, I would look around at other seamstresses, I know someone will be able to do it. I have even gone to my local tailor and they did a dress for me that was about 10 sizes too big. Do what you can to not have to deal with that store anymore.

I would fight this but in the mean time go to a store and et her a amazing dress of the rack ...i know it will be more money...but fighting and having it come down to the wire is not worth the stress and hassle

I was just recommended to a wonderful seamstress in E. Setauket by someone on these boards. I had the same problem with my wedding gown. HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! A corset back that even when tied the tightest was gapping 4 inches in the front. I took it to the seamstress and she said while it was going to require 'a lot of work' it is is fixable and considering the cap charge at the bridal place it wasn't that much more (30 dollars). FM if you want the name of the seamstress. Good luck sweetie. My mom still doesn't have her dress ordred

Re: Ugh - the dress from he!! - and the bridal shop who sold it to us.

Thanks girls. The seamstress is the woman who did my wedding gown and my sisters/MOH dress. Both are awesome - but they weren't so huge! The biggest problem with this dress is that my mom has a huge chest and she can't wear a strapless bra - which we specifically told the saleslady, Elaine, about, but she assured us it would fit and we would only have to alter the waist line. NOT - the entire dress has to be altered to fit.

The color is so wrong it's unreal. I just printed the page off of Raylia's website to bring with me.

On 'the professional bridal shop's' receipt it says they are not responsible for wrong sizes as it's the customer's decision - how can you decide which size works for you when the saleslady won't even show you the sizing chart?!?!?!

Well, if anyone is in the Patchogue area and wants to come and fight with me, I'll be there at 10am this morning -when they open.

Re: YAY - the dress from he!! - is GONE!!! Update below

Hi Girls - thanks again... and I have to say, it turned out better then I could imagine!!!

We went down there first thing in the morning, and spoke with the original saleslayd, Elaine. She felt so aweful for my mom and completely understood our gripes. After my mom tried the dress on for her she cried to the woman to help her. And she did.

My mom tried on another 12 dresses and found one that looked so stunning on my mom!!! She fell in love with it right away. She helped us out on the price of this dress - since it was much more expensive - and gave us a credit on the other dress. My mom then cried tears of happiness on the way home - she was so happy and so thrilled at how beautiful this dress was - and it fit so well off the rack!!!

We walked in there calmly and they made good and I can't thank them enough for their helpfulness and generosity. My mother and I were beside ourselves and now we are both exstatic and both of us will look beaufitul.

So, I have to say, that for all of the bad I've heard about them, I'm glad to say that I can't complain at all - we're both so happy.

Thank you all!!
