So, FH and I have been debating on a HM location for MONTHS now. I've been stressing beyond belief and really trying to make a decision. Last week we went to a new TA and she spent hours with us narrowing the choices down. We finally made a decision on a cruise to puetro rico, round trip southern carribean, followed by a week at a beautiful AI in Mexico. We were SO excited about it! brought brochures over to show my FIL's and show them everyhting- talking about how great the AI deal is blablabla.
SO- 3 days later my fmil emails me to tell me that she's 'taking my advice' and going to an AI in Mexico with 2 other couples-- I'm like- WHAT?! And I get annoyed- but they change their mind and decide on going to Punta Cana. All week long they ask us for the name of our TA and we keep avoiding telling them because we don't want them to book the same type of trip as us. WELL- they look the TA up and go to her.
SO today we go over to their house and they're like- SO we booked Mexico- and we're like what? We thought you were going to DR-- she goes- YOUR TA convinced us not to. We're like... oh you went to our ta?!? ok whatever- what is the name of the resort that you're going to?
THEY BOOKED THE SAME EFFING RESORT THAT WE WERE BOOKING FOR OUR HM 5 MONTHS BEFORE WE GET MARRIED!!!!!!!!
***!?!?!?! I couldnt even talked- I walked out of the house and I've been crying ever since. I just can't believe that we had our hearts set on this and they go and book it. THen she tries to blame in on the TA- i'm like- YOU are the one that was 'taking my advise' AKA stealing our HM plans!!!
(did I mention that when we were thinking of HAwaii they were suddenly planning a cruise to HI?!?!? ***???)
I am just SO annoyed and SO dissapointed that I have to go back to sqaure one becuase I refuse to have people talking about our HM months before we go.. UGH. ok sorry for the long vent but i am SOOOOOO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of who goes before you, you and DH will create your own totally unique experience. It might even be helpful for someone to go before you.....it's always wise to learn from the path of others. Maybe they can even tell you the best and worst places to go. I understand that you want to have this HM all to yourself....but try not to worry about other people's use of their vacation time. No matter what, it couldn't possibly infringe on your HM....I'm so sorry though for your frustration. I hope that you find a comfortable solution for you and your new family.

I hope we find a solution too- but it's his parents and his two aunts and uncles- so his whole family will pretty much ahve experienced our HM plus know the prices of everything and I am a VERY private person so I hate that.
We're just going to have to find somewhere else.

i mean i understand that you wanted a unique trip that someone else hasnt done maybe, and its a bit rude that they did that - but you will have your own experiences there and will have a great time regardless. think of this as a way to find out about it - what to do not to do what was the best restuarants etc...

wow that's frustrating. Your HM will be your HM no matter what. It could be worse...they could have booked the same trip for the same dates!

worst part is that- my FH is just as mad as I am, but he is in the middle becuase it's his parents. so he's totally stressed about it.

It's unbelievable what FMIL's come up with. I can't believe out of all the places that's where she wanted to go...what the f*ck that's so messed up!!! My FMIL told me to book 20 rooms at the hotel b/c it's 'Uncle Billy's' birthday and we all want to celebrate it...mind you that's my wedding day!! *** they are all crazy in the head.

my aunt KNOWING fh and i were going to punta cana for our honeymoon, booked a vacation there and went this past summer.. i was pissed. PISSED! she went and came back and told everyone.. i mean EVERYONE.. how horrible it was.. the people were this.. the other couples were that.. the food was this.. the beach was that..
it was according to her 'the worst trip she had ever been on' the worst resort area in the world..
sigh.. great.. i'm going on my honeymoon to the worst resort place in the world.. imagine how i felt..
so i changed my trip.. changed it to jamaica.. and haven't told anyone in our family.. we're also doing a southern carribean cruise out of puerto rico.. so when folks ask, that is all i mention.. i keep the resort in jamaica a secret..
and who knows.. maybe punta cana really is horrible and she saved us from a horrible HM.. better her have a horrible time than me!

It's like old people are missing part of a chip in their brain!!!!! Do you unlearn right and wrong when you're old??? I am so sick of considering other people's feelings.... no on eles cares! They all only think of themselves- I could learn a thing or two from them!!

my grandmother decided today.. 4 weeks before my wedding to go look for a dress.. then on the way home my mom drove her past the reception hall. .she thought it was nice but wanted to know howcome the hotel wasn't on site.. HUH?
cause it's not..
well why didn't u pick a place with a hotel.. get married at the hotel so when u get tire at the reception you can go upstairs to rest..
uh... because u didn't pay for it. okay?

I understand you are upset- but in all honesty- what's the big deal if they go to the same place as you? It's 5 months before- it's not like it's the same week!
If anything feel flattered that they trust your judgment and think you have good taste.
Besides- maybe they can give you some pointers- good restaurants to go or sights to see or places that are a waste of time...
I kind of wish I had someone to send to my honeymoon spot before I go to give me advice on what to do.

In the grand scheme of things, this is so isignifcant... don't let her know it bothers you... she probably feeds off of that.

I understand where you are coming from.. you two want to be the first to go experience the resort and all.. and they could have a picked something else.. but what can ya do ya know?!?
If you feel more comfortable picking another location, then you should.. it is your HM and it is very important to a newlywed couple..
Sorry you have to go through this but as the other girls said.. atleast they're not planning on a family vacation w/ you two during your HM..

How did WE do anything wrong to book our honeymoon? When THEY picked up, went to our TA and booked MEXICO.
now my poor non confrontational FH has to defend ourselves as to how everyone's vacation is ruined. WHAT ABOUT OUR HONEYMOON> why does no one care about that???
