i am 5 mins by car too lol. I have walked there before, i used to walk to austin street when I was in the mood for a walk and to stay active. So not far by foot either but yeah i prefer driving there.

That is so true, it can get insanely crowded in there, sometimes you can't even walk by bc of everyone at the bar. I love it when we get a seat in the back when you walk up the stairs. But last time I went there with my cousin and we had one of those tables for 2 right BY the bar and people that were hanging out at the bar were standing right next to my table and it was annoying.

i would love to walk it but we live in the fairview and it's a lil long. if we lived on 108st i wouldn't mind it.

i love sitting in the back, less people to crowd over you and talk over your food. i hate that! and they always crowd the entrance which makes it impossible to get it. but i love that when i call them to see how long the wait is, the hostess let's us put our name down over the phone which makes the wait time less when we get there after looking for parking.

now i'm craving mexican food.

yeah i definitely wouldn't do it on a regular basis. I only did it when i was in the mood to go for a long walk by getting some exercise. I live on the otherside by kew gardens, not far from the LIRR

oh good idea, i am gonna try that next time.

when you call make sure you tell them that you're looking for parking and will be right in this way they won't think you won't make it in time.

thank you for the tip

yeah alot of times when we go, its when we're already on austin street shopping and then we'll go there to eat so i can definitely get there quick after calling.

Cabana is my favorite on austin street, and unfortunately that place is also so over-crowded most of the time. That bar area is also too small and gets insane

love, love, love cabana. i always get the skirt steak. and their mojitos are delish!

mardi gras is also pretty good. & the french bistro by cabana but it closed.

Re: your fav restaurants

well as long as we're mentioning nyc, there's also victor's, a cuban place in the theater district; their mojitos are like none i've ever tasted. momofuku ssambar is a restaurant our friend opened recently in union square, and was arguably the best meal we've ever had, and we're die-hard foodies.

i also have to plug belle's in westhampton. i guess it's a cafe/luncheonette type of place, but it has this whole creole thing happening. let's just say that oprah goes there when she comes into the airport on her private jet. it's reasonably priced and incredible. for breakfast there's also maureen's kitchen in smithtown--double mmmmmmmmmm.

ETA: great thread, btw--i need some new dining options
