Re: Your new last name
I'm taking his name...its one of few traditional type things I actually really really like. I like my last name, but his is kinda cute too.

I am definately taking FH's last name-there was never a question-while I'll be sad losing my maiden name I'm so excited to be his wife that I can't wait to be called Mrs. S
Same thing here and I have a complicated situation... I have to change so many things over... my professional licenses, pension, investments, real-estate and I'm my Dad's power-of attorney since his stroke. I have to also inform the 10 doctors he sees, all his investments, banks, his checking account that is joint with me. I know some girls just don't want to do the paperwork... I easily have double the amount of things to change over. It can be done
Oh, and I'm going from a bird (maiden name) to a fish (married name) I always tell FH that my maiden name eats his people for dinner

Although I'm sad to lose my name, I'll be taking my husband's.

Re: Your new last name
I voted for hyphenating, but I think I'll end up adding his last name to mine, without the hyphen.
I'm taking it, my name matches well with it anyhow and even if it didn't I think I would, I am old fashioned I guess.

Reluctantly I am taking his. It means a lot to him and his name is a lot easier than mine. All of a sudden I've been feeling sentimental about losing my last name.
same here. But I will be taking it anyway.

Re: Your new last name
I'm attached to my last name too but unfortunately it's my ex-husband's last name. I was thinking of keeping it because of the kids and even though FH said it was OK, I can tell he was hurt. So I will take his last name. On the bright side, I will go from 9 letters to 4.

Re: Your new last name
Im taking his last name but having a hard time letting go. My dad passed away and my brother and I are the only one's left with it. Also I was married as a teenager(dummy)and there's along story behind it but it took forever to get my name back(12yrs.). I've only had it back for about 3yrs. now.

I was SO excited to take his name. I loose 5 letters and 2 syllables....and it's ITALIAN also...does it get any better?

Re: Your new last name
You forgot to add 'keeping your name' as a option.
I'm hypenating legally, but mostly I'm keeping it. Dh doesn't care - actually wants me to keep my name if I have a problem with this. So I use my own name for most things (work, etc.), use the hypenated for legal stuff (taxes, deeds, etc.), and will probably his name for when we have kids (probably mostly for school things). And no, I haven't gone to the SS office yet.
I go back and forth on this - a few days ago I wasn't changing anything, and now I want to hypenate again. But taking his completely was never an option - I'm a published playwright and I have a Masters, and I'm working on a screenwriting career right now. Very few people in Hollywood change their name, especially not after a certain point of recognition. I'm not there yet, but I'm working towards it.
