Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
November 15, 2003
We spent the day looking at rings in the city, but 'Just Looking.' When we were about done, he said had to go back to get some pricing information from one jeweler. He actually, had the jeweler set my ring earlier in the day and was picking it up. I honestly believed he was just getting prices.
When we met back up, I looked at him and said 'you look pale', not having any idea he just made a purchase that would change our lives forever! We went to Smith and Wolensky for dinner then to a movie. When we came out of the theater, the Empire State Building was right in front of us, all lit up. I gave him a brief, but dramatic synopsis of 'An Affair to Remember' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' and I guess that set the stage. We went across town and up to the Observation Deck. After finding the perfect spot, CJ dropped to one knee. I honestly thought he was teasing me and said to him 'get the_____up, you're not funny.' Then I saw his face and I couldn't believe what was happening. He asked me to be his wife, then pulled out the ring and put it on my finger. I was still in shock, but of course I said YES! I will never forget that feeling!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
12/15/02 Well, it was lame. I'll admit. HAHA I was home on a Sunday wrapping presents in our bedroom while JT was working at a museum. He was late coming home and didn't call, but I figured it was the weekend before we went home for Christmas, so he was probably out buying presents and what not. So more time passed and I was getting worried. I was about to call him when he came home and came into the bedroom. When I asked him where he was, he said, 'I was out gettnig something for you,' then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I laughed HYSTERICALLY for like 10 minutes straight before I answered him
The best part about his proposal is actually the real reason why he was so late. He had called my dad to 'ask his permission', but my dad wasn't home, so he called my dad's cell phone, well, just as JT asked his 'permission', my dad's cell phone dropped the call because he was in a bad spot, and JT thought my dad HUNG UP ON HIM! It turned out my dad never heard JT ask him the question, so he never called JT back, and it took JT two hours to get the nerve to call my dad back again

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
February 2004: We'd already been living together for 2 years - and engagement had become a running joke between us and all our friends. I kind of lost it around Christmas time because he was buying more toys (quad, jet ski, snow mobile) - and I was still waiting for my ring.
Prep: Feb. 13th is my birthday and the 14th is Valentine's Day...
Somewhere around the beginning of February, he started to disappear at night with one of his best friends - and he'd always go out dressed nicely - not in jeans as uaual. So I knew something was up. Then, around the 8th or 9th of the month, he informed me that he had to loan all of our money to a friend of ours. Regardless of the fact that we hadn't paid our mortgage yet - he actually told me to take a cash advance to cover the mortgage (he doesn't believe in debt - so I was shocked)!
Flash forward to the 12th of February: my birthday is the next day - and he warns me that I'm getting my gifts on Valentine's Day. I totally know what's up at this point - plus the fact that he mistakenly left the jewelers card in his pocket!
Valentine's Day was a Saturday, and we went about our typical routine - breakfast out with friends and some house work. We go to dinner at one of my favorite little restaurants (Cafe Al Dente in Oyster Bay) - and I could see that he was a nervous mess. He was pounding glasses of wine - and shifting all uncomfortable in his chair. By the time we were done with dinner, there was a table of 6 young kids right next to us, so any romantic mood was out the window. I felt so bad for him!!!
Anyway, we're walking to the car, because we decided to go to a bakery for dessert. As we're walking to the car, he tells me that he's had too much to drink, and that I have to drive. He hands me the keys, and stops in his tracks. He says 'I think there's something on the key ring' - and I look down to see my ring - and turn around to find him on one knee in the middle of the road. The rest is history! We spent our time in the bakery calling our family and letting them all in on the news.
I felt so bad for him, because he really wanted it to be romantic - but the opportunity passed too quickly. I wouldn't trade the outcome for anything!!!!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
I wanna play...........
FI called me at work last night (on my cell) to ask what time Chez Oskar's closes - a neighborhood restaurant in Brooklyn and the scene of our first kiss. I figured he was going to do it so I rushed home and fixed my hair, showered and changed.
We were seated in the back in a corner booth -off in the corner where nobody could stare at us. There was a guy there that FI knew having dinner with a group. We spoke and went to our table. The guy later came by to say hi again and then they all left.
We both ordered mojitos - which I fed him the first time we went to Chez Oskars. I got him liquored up that night and took advantage of him. LOL LOL Our first kiss was at like the 4th table from the door. I kissed him after getting up and leaning over candles.
So, last night I ordered lobster bisque and crabcakes & he ordered a salad. When the bisque and salad came he ate a few bites of it and then pushed it aside.
He looked at me and said 'You know what I'm doing?' I said 'No.' He then told me that he had prepared something and practiced it in the car for the entire drive from his brother's place in NJ - 90 minutes at least.
He said it was not coming out right so he was just going to tell me. He told me that he never thought he'd fall in love again after his last relationship. He never thought he would get married - ever. He said I am always on his side and that although it took him 3 1/2 years to even ask me out, he'd gladly wait another 3 1/2 years if it took that much. Then he said 'I would be honored if you would be my wife.'
Then he pulled out a small white box. I kissed him and said 'Yes, I will be your wife.' Then I opened the box (a light was inside) and saw my fabulous ring!!!!!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
I knew it was coming since he asked my parents permission when we were visiting at Christmas. But he told my mom it would happen in April or May. For Valentine's weekend we were meeting my parents in PV, Mexico for the weekend. We landed on Feb. 13 and when we arrived it was pouring rain. By the time we got to the hotel the rain had cleared so we had happy hour drinks and went to watch the sunset. I think I really did know what he was up to the whole time, even though he has me convinced I was surprised. There on the beach as his arms were around me, he told me how much he loved me and that he couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with me. As I turned around to thank him and give him a kiss, he had the ring box out and popped the question. I really didn't believe him since he never got down on one knee. I kept saying, you are doing this now??? Finally I opened the ring box and it was all a blur after that. The one thing that I kept thinking was, but he didn't go down on one knee. Even though it was a romantic and beautiful proposal, it still irks me that he didn't make that effort!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
My story is not all that exciting, but it's good.
We (ok, mostly me) had been back and forth to the jeweler for about 4 weeks selecting the ring, setting, etc (He had left that all up to me-he was there for the initial visit and selection, but the rest was up to me--my ring is was specially designed, a mix of 2 rings we saw) and he had made it very clear to me that when the ring was ready, I was not going to get it right away. He would pick it up and he'd give it to me in his own time, when he was ready.
At this point, we'd been dating just over 3 yrs, so I was getting a little anxious about getting engaged and married.
So on July 4, we go to the jeweler (ring is ready!) and FH pays the balance, but does not take the ring. Why? B/c he knew I would want to see it, then I'd want to wear it, and he was not ready to give it to me.
We had a BBQ planned for July 11th, everyone thought I'd get it then. I convinced myself I would not get it b/c FH is a very private person. I was right.
On Sunday July 18, while getting ready to go to a friend's BBQ, FH asked me 'When I give you your ring, do you want me to just give it to you or give it to you in a special way?' Me being the anxious BRAT that I am said 'Well, if it means that I'll get it this week, then just give it to me. But if I have to wait another month for you to figure some special way, then just give it to me.' I then proceeded to say 'No, seriously, do it how you want. This is your thing, do it however you want.'
He then asked to use my cell phone, makes a call and all I hear is...'Hi, it's Sebastian, how are you? Good. Yes, please. Hi, it's Sebastian, how are you? Good. Yes, please. Hi, it's Sebastian, how are you? Good. I am calling to ask you if I can marry your daughter?' As he says this, it rund thru my mind what just happened. He called my dad, but got my step-brother, and step-mother first! As he is asking my dad, he pulls out the ring box (which PS is under the coffee table which is RIGHT in front of me) and says to me 'Will you marry me?' I (of course) said yes, and started to cry. He then hands me the phone, I can't talk to my dad, so FH took back the phone.
Not quite the most romantic and surprising proposeal, but FH was SO concerned with me liking my ring, that's why I was so involved on the selection and design.

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
Oooh this is fun...
Even though I've been engaged for almost 4 years...
Fi proposed on the 5th yr anniversary of the day we met. He asked me to do my nails (he is anal about nice nails) and get a nice outfit, so of course I had a feeling! Then he picks me up in a white Jaguar S-type limo (my favorite car) and hands me a bottle of Cristal (his favorite, but OK I'll drink it) and the most beautiful flower bouquet. He says, 'are you ready to have an unforgettable night?'...I'm like, hell yeah! LOL. So we drive what seems like forever and get to the River Cafe (later I found out that the driver had made really good timing and we were early)...we sit and have the most amazing, delicious, gourmet meal ever. Fiance bought me another bottle of champagne so I was really drunk...then for dessert, the Maitre 'D asked us to sit by the window overlooking the water and under the bridge...we each got dessert and as I was enjoying my chocolate replica of the Brooklyn Bridge, fiance got down on both knees and said some things that I do not remember (something about loving me, etc... ) and asked me to be his wife...I said 'I love the ring (he had it made from a picture I had since I was 12!), but we're young and I'd like to keep my independence...it's possible that I'll marry you'...I was such a *****! Mind you we were on a 'break' and not officially together (although it wa our only break and it was less than a month), but still...poor guy! He called my momma and asked for my hand (and my dad too...and they live in different states) and picked up my 5 best friends from HS in the limo, drove all of us to Webster Hall and we partied the night away. I had my engagement party that night. Fi went all out, that limo was rented for 12 hours! Then we drove everyone home and had our first night as an engaged couple!
Sorry for the novel...You guys may have noticed that I write a lot!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
My FH was planning on doing it when we went to Florida (the week after), this way he could do it in front of both our families (im kinda glad he didnt though). We went out to dinner on October 1st and when we came home he didnt feel good so he was in bed and asked me if i would bring him a Richola throat drop and i was like 'no get it yourself' then i felt bad so i got up to get it for him (it was under HIS pillow and I was ON TOP OF IT so he needed to get me up! LOL) So when i was going to give it to him i picked up the macys catalogue that just came in the mail that day and on the cover there were a ton of engagement rings. so i put the throat drop on top of the catalog and was like 'HEREEEE you goooo' being all exagerrated, so he looks at it and goes 'why would i need that, when i have this right here...' and i saw a glimmer out of the corner of my eye and a box and i almost fainted. he said all this stuff (none of which i remember as i was in shock) i couldnt even look at the ring and i was laughing and shaking because i didnt think it was for real. then he put it on my finger and that was that!!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
June 25, 2004 FH and I had been dating for 4 and 1/2 yrs and it was the first time we had gone away together. We went to Washington DC. That friday that we got there we were planning on going to a very nice, fancy restaurant. We had spoken about getting engaged a lot lately and I was getting impatient. I was hoping that he would propose at the dinner that night. Well we went to dinner and I kept waiting for it, but it never came. I was so disappointed that I wanted to cry. After dinner we went back to our hotel to get changed and to go for a walk by the whitehouse. I wasn't' feeling well and didn't really want to go, but fh kept insisting on it. So we went for a walk and I started asking him about getting engaged. He basically told me he didn't want to talk about it. We walked by the white house and ended up in the ellipse with the facing the white house and the Washington monument behind us. We stood there for a while looking at the view and then he turns to me and says 'I had a good reason for not wanting to talk about getting engaged.. I already decided that I want to spend the rest of my life with you' At this point I'm hysterical. He gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. I'm crying so much that I kneel down next to him and hug him. He kept trying to get me to let go so he could show me the ring and finish what he wanted to say. LOL Finally I let him show me the ring and put it on. I couldn't believe it was actually happening! I just kept saying 'omg is this real??'
It was the best moment of my life!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
April 10, 2004
It was a Saturday night & he told me we had to go to this restaurant, L'Endroit Restaurant in Roslyn Heights because of his job. (background, FH deals with restaurants & this was a new stop)..Anyway, all through dinner, he was acting strange with these questions about how I felt about our future. This is nothing out of th ordinary for him. When I look back now, he kept putting his hands in his pocket & that was because my ring was in there. He was originally going to propose there, but it got very crowded & he chickened out. So we left & started to drive home. He had to find a place to make a U-turn so we could get back to the Northern State. He was driving crazy & i kept yelling at him. All of a sudden, he makes a sharp right hand turn which ended up being an elementary school parking lot. As he turns, he says, oh no, I dropped my ring (i gave him a promise ring 2 years ago & he always plays with it & drops it while driving. Usually he never cares to find it right away, but this night he did) So he pulls into the parking lot & starts searching the car. I am cursing, bc he has all doors open & it is chilly out & there are no lights so how is he going to find it! Well he drags me out of the car & starts looking on my side of the car. I turned my back & after about 5 minutes, he was like, ohhh I have it...I turned back around to get in the car & he was down on one knee holding my ring! I started to cry right away! I don't remember much of what he said, besides 'will you be my wife?'
We get back in the car & I call my mom to tell her, not knowing she already knew...We drive back to FH's house so he can change into more comfortable clothes...We pull up in the driveway & I see all these cars...FH got my entire family & his over to his house for a little 'congratulations' party! It truly was the best night of my life!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
okay i'll tell my story My fh and i have been together about 7 years. i knew it was comming we went ring shopping a few times he wanted to make sure i would love my ring. he said that he would be devistated if he did not get what i really wanted. And recentely all of my friends yes all of them had just gotten engaged even our best friends got engaged right in front of us when we went on vacation with them. i was anxious but i kept my cool. i knew it would come eventually.
It was the fourth of july and i worked all day as usual. we did not have any plans that night because he had to go to the airport and pick up his sister that he was meeting for the first time. so it was about 9:00pm when he got home. then he said 'were going to go and see the fire works okay' and i said okay if we can make it.
So we got there right on time just as they started. we opened some champange. and watched the fireworks. for some reason he is trying to get me to put down my glass. i was like 'no' im not done yet. so finally i finish my glass. he hugs me from behind and starts whispering in my ear. now i cannot really hear what he is saying at this point. so i turn around and he is down on one knee and he says 'Will you spend the rest of your life with me?' Will you make me the happiest man ever and be my wife?'
I felt so wierd like it was a dream and i gave him a huge hug and kiss. and said yes. and then he asks me if i want to look at the ring and of course i said yes.

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
My boyfriend and I had been doing the long distance thing for 10 months, with him having moved to Miami and me still living in NYC. So many things happened in my life over those months which made it hard for me to move down so that we could be together.
Finally, on June 20th I packed up my stuff and moved down without a job or anything. It was so scary, and leaving my family was so emotional.
My flight was really early, and I was so tired that I took a long nap in the afternoon. Which, in retrospect was probably the only reason I didn't catch on that he was up to something. Mark had promised me he'd do something special for me the day I arrived in Miami and had bought me flowers. He also said he'd thought of something romantic we could do to mark the occassion. He brought me down to the beach with a split of champagne and we drank it and wrote our wishes on pieces of paper that we stuck inside. We were going to throw the bottle into the ocean.
In the back of my mind I was thinking 'wouldn't it be funny if he proposed right now', but I really didn't believe he would. I even thougth to myself, 'better not think about this because I'll be disappointed when he doesn't.'
We stood up to go throw the bottle into the water and he turned around and said 'well there's just one more thing' and dropped to one knee with the ring in his hand. I totally lost it at this point. I fell to my knees and held him - crying hysterically. It was truly the happiest moment of my life - and the only time I have cried actual tears of joy.
I love him so much!

Re: your proposal's (how did it happen)
. He was very sneaky because he knew I expected it to come shortly (We went to shop for my ring together) so he drew it out over like 3 months than had his best friend come up with this elaborate scheme to get me to the restaurant/bar we had our first date in/met in. So when I got there both he and my FI were there. He (friend) had put his stuff by the front door and 'went to get his wife' at the subway. Well when it was 30 min later and he still wasn't back I started to get concerned. Well my FI diverted my attention to something else and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. The restaurant brought us champagne and then we headed somewhere else for dinner where both his and my parents were waiting. (His parents came up from Maryland). Then the next day we went to the Four Seasons and a play then he whisked me off to Long Beach Island for more celebrating that weekend! Very sneaky little guy and I loved every second of it!
