Did anyone get a diamond w/ a lesser clarity for a bigger stone?
If you did are you happy with it?
Is it true an I3 doesn't sparkel?
Please help!

Re: Your Ring.....
They say cut actually has the biggest effect on sparkle (e.g., ideal, very good, etc.).
Check out Blue Nile - they have a lot of the basic diamond info and it's a fun site. My diamond actually came from there and we're extremely happy with it.

I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't know all these terms. I just know that I love my ring. I really didn't think my FH would pick out a diamond and setting that was so beautiful. It's not really his style to research and shop around but he out did himself. It's sound corny but- It's everything I wanted and more!

The reason the larger diamonds dont sparkle as much is they are cut with the same amount of facets as a smaller cut diamond, so the facets are larger. The larger the diamond and the more inclusions the easier it is too see the imperfections-but-how often does someone look at your ring that closely? My ring isnt 3 carats...its a little bigger then 1 and it sparkles like crazy no matter how dirty it is. But-I know some jewelers will grade it all different levels, I3 is off the chart and would mean heavily included
ohhhh that makes sense now... thanks :)

My ring is about 1.75 it is a Princess cut diamond... and I love it!
I did read though... the bigger the diamond you go with the princess cut... even if they are both 'h' color... the bigger diamond will always look yellow...
I compared my ring with the 2 carat ring that I was thinking of getting... and they were the same color and clarity... and the bigger one looked more yellow... so I went with the 'smaller' 1.75 carat.
Good luck... Ultimately it is whatever you feel more comfortable with!

Coincidentally-today a woman came into the store and complimented me on my ring and I had to give her one back-This thing she had on her finger was like 4-5 carats!! It was ENORMOUS! But when I looked at it-it didnt really sparkle!

Re: Your Ring.....
I3 could have visible marks in it. Some stones are not considered 'jewelry quality' and would be used for things like diamond drill bits (dentists use them). Also, really bad clarity could affect your stone in terms of durability. The stone could even crack.

Mine is a round brilliant with a clarity of VS1 and I am glad my husband got the VS1 clarity over a bigger stone. It is a beautiful stone and is very sparkly. I think people think it is actually larger than it is because it has good color and clarity.

Re: Your Ring.....
As I am sitting here reading this... I asked my FH what the color and clarity is of my ring...he doesn't even look up from the Post and says, 'I don't know. I used to know. You should have asked me months ago.' So I said, ' Well, I hope you have it written down somewhere' He said, 'You can hope' Men...they just don't give a sh*t about that kind of stuff...at least mine doesn't. But I love my ring, it's beautiful and it's 1.25 carats and sparkles even when dirty...I LOVE it!!!

I chose clarity ovewr size and I'm so glad. I have a VVS1, and it looks amazing. If you don't have a rung yet I'd suggest going to try a few on. Big ones might look too big on you, etc, so it might not be a question, It's about what makes YOU happy. Theree are so many factors that go into it. I don't know exactly what it is, but my diamond sparkles so much and/or it's set so well that it looks bigger than it is.

Re: Your Ring.....
You would probably not notice any difference in clarity to the naked eye between a VVS1 and a VS2. I have a SI1 and it sparkes big time. It's mostly in the cut. I would not buy an 13. That's a commercial grade diamond and not suitable for a solitare.

I have a 1.25 carat princess cut Color is E Clarity is VVS1
This means it is relatively colorless and almost flawless, BUT it is not a huge rock!
I know people who spent the same amount of money that my FI spent and have a ring almost double the size of mine, but when they're next to each other, mine looks super white and sparkly! However, I don't get the 'oh my gawd, oh my gawds' that they get from other people. I think YOU need to decide what would make you happiest - I personally like knowing that my ring may not be the biggest, but it is a really special stone - and ultimately, they're all special if the one you love gave it to you. Hope that helps.
Same thing, My FH went into the city to find a diamond. He wanted to get me a larger stone, I only have a 1 ct, and he was sooo worried it would be too small, but I had told him I want a REALLY nice stone instead of large(withought going into any debt!!!, or I'd kill him, haha). For the same money he was looking at one twice the size, but it was way too included. I love my ring, and get tons of compliments, it just shines...well when its clean anyway ...but no I don't get the same reaction as girls with the monster stones, but I come from upstate to, so I just think my idea of what makes me happy is a little different, I know in Long Island everything is about bigger and better, so you get what you will feel comfortable with, and what you will love to look down and see on your hand

Re: Your Ring.....
I think you can absolutely tell the difference in quality....even when it is not directly next to a higher quality ring. Always go for quality in diamonds, it makes a huge difference.

Re: Your Ring.....
My center stone is 1.75 and it sparkles and looks high quality, but I don't know the grade, sorry. I always told my FH, Quality over Quantity..I think you can tell.

Re: Your Ring.....
when I went to the appraiser she said most people with the naked eye cant tell the difference between different colors and clarity (unless it is very low on the scale) unless you put 2 of them together and compare. She did say that the cut has a HUGE impact on how good the stone looks and how it sparkles.

Re: Your Ring.....
Honestly, The sparkle is mostly about the cut of the diamond. Also to enhance face value, you should get as close to colorless as you can afford.
I personally got a carat stone, but it is a good quailty.
If you wanted a larger stone, you could maybe go for a well cut stone, ( I color, SI2)
I wouldn't go with I3 inclusions, it can effect the sparkle. HTH

Re: Your Ring.....
My personal opinion is I would rather have a smaller stone that is more brilliant. My center stone is .75 carats and it shines like nobody's business....
It is a VS1

Re: Your Ring.....
If the prime thing you are looking for in your diamond is size and sparkle. There are a few things you can do to not have to cut off an arm to afford it.
For sparkle, round diamonds sparkle the most and you must get a briallant cut. Nothing sparkles more than these diamonds.
Now you can get a bigger diamond with lower clarity. I would not go lower than S12.
It is very important to get a loose stone. Once they set the stone they can position it to appear to have a higher clarity than it actually does.

My ring is 1.06 carat princess cut, color F, VS1-- it sparkles SO Much, I constantly get compliments on the sparkle of it...I wouldn't want a bigger ring, I am small person and this ring is big enough for me, very happy with it.
