Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

Has anyone who got their engagement ring from zales had any problems with it?? I've only been wearing my engagement ring for 2 months and a stone falls out! I don't even wash my hands with it on, i'm soo gentle with it.. But anyway, me and FH go back to zales and they tell me they'll repair the ring and it'll be ready in TWO MONTHS! So I'm supposed to go two months without a frickin engagement ring (that i've been only wearing for two months!) because they don't know how to make their rings properly! And they won't even give me a replacement ring to wear in the meantime! Has anyone else had any problems like this?

No I haven't but may I ask which Zales are you dealing with?

Re: Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

my e-ring isnt from there but I got a ring a few years back from there platinum with sapphires and diamonds...I had a stone fall out and the band was so flimsy that it had bent out of shape to the point where it was more square than round. They were going to send it out to be repaired and it would have taken a month so the time schedule they gave you is normal for them, but in my case the ring was so damagged that they replaced it.
I did find out though that the items they sell during a 'sale' are sometimes of lesser quality then you would by at their full price retail.
I would look at their waranty and see if there is a time stated for how long repairs should take. If there isnt I would complain to the Manager about the quality of their merchendise and see if they will speed up the repairs.

HTH!

i'm actually dealing with two trying to figure out which one will be willing to work with me...one is the zales on 34th street in manhattan near penn station, and the other one is the zales at kings plaza mall in brooklyn..they keep switching their answers up, first they say it'll take 2 months, then they say 3 weeks, it's really ridiculous....am I the only one this has happened to?? I would even be willing to accept this if they would give me a replacement ring to wear in the meantime so at least i'll have a ring on my finger but they're not even willing to do that!

I am so sorry you are going through this.

Although my rign isn't from Zales, I too lost a stone out of my ring with the 1st 2 months. It only took them a few days to have it fixed for me.

If you haven't already speak with the store manager and DEMAND that the ring be fixed right away.
I dont know if they have a main office but also maybe try contacting them and make the same demands.

Re: Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

I hate Zales and yes got my e-ring from there. DH put it on lay away and when we went to make a pmt. they told us that they voided the sale and put it back in stock but were going to give him a zales gift card for the balance. Needless to say after I bugged out on the girl in the store and caused a big scene. They sold us the ring but I had to pay cash right then and there. Then after wearing my ring for yes a month I noticed there was a slight black dot in the center stone. So I called them and they told me this was normal in all stones, well I know this is not true so I contacted zales corporate office and now after another month I notice that there are now three black dots in my ring and the mgr. of zales is never there(so I thought). Well I went to a different zales who was very very helpful and explained to me that they get complaints about this particular store and mgr. and after giving her the name of the girl I flipped on who happened to be the same girl on the phone I find out the whole time I was dealing with the mgr all along and she played it off like she wasnt. Well it took 3months before I got an answer from corporate who said they spoke with the mgr. and she told them she never heard anything about this okay so I go back to the other zales for a cleaning and explain the situation to the mgr there and she takes my ring looks at it and tells me it's very evident there is something wrong with the center stone. She sent my e ring back to corporate or whereever and got me a new center stone put in. It did unfortunetly take 2months before I got it back and now I've noticed the center stone is kinda sinking on one end in the setting. It also looks like it is very cloudy and possibly fake(I know it's not but it kinda looks like it) It doesnt sparkle like the it should. Im actually going back in May to have it looked at for the warranty so I am def. bringing this up again. Sorry so long but yes I totally understand your frustration.

OMG that is so crazy. He got mine from MACYS. I forgot to mention before that they send their repairs out and it still only took a few days. it get picked up from them on Monday and droped off on Thursdays.

(the picture doesn't do the ring justice. I have tried to take pics and with some help of girls on here but they come out so blury. hopefully now that the weather is nice I can try it outside with nature sun light and get a good shot)

GOOD LUCK

I also forgot to mention that a friend of FH got his ring at Zales on 86th street in bklyn and when he bought it they sold it to him as the center stone was 3ct and 2 side stones (forgot what they were) well after he gave it to her they had it appraised and found out that the whole ring was 3cts. he went back a raised hell and got the stone replace with the correct size.

I tend to prefer smaller, independent jewelry stores, because at places like Zales, you can get lost, and repairs take forever etc. I worked at an independent jewelry store that actually has a jeweler there most of the time, so repairs are on site. We also used to get repairs from all the bigger companies that would outsource them. Also when there's an independent owner who goes out and hand picks the stones etc, it can be higher quality.

Just something to think about for people purchasing jewelry, or as another option for repairs. Sorry you're going through this! FM me if you'd like to know info of my place for repairs.. Goodluck!

That's crazy.....bring the ring to a reputable jeweler that you know has been around for some time or even go to the diamond district in Manhattan and I bet they will re-set the stone right in front of you. Good luck.

I got my engagment ring from Zales, actually it was the zales outlet in Riverhead. I guess I should know on wood since I haven't had any problems with my ring or their service. I had my ring resized and had it within one week. I am sorry this happened to you. Like the above posts have stated I would go over the salespeople and speak with a manager. Let them know that this is unacceptable and that you are not waiting two months for your ring. Good Luck!!!

Re: Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

only problem I had with them was when my fiance well before he was that. he gave me a promise ring, it had engravings that wasn't even spelled correctly! they messed up the past, present, future thing. he took it back and they still didn't fix it to well. it's just a promise ring though so oh well.

when my promise ring got messed up once (the band got bent) it only took a week for them to fix it, at the roosevelt field mall.

My friend got her ring from Zales. She had so many problems with it, that she ended up returning it!!!!

Re: Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

At first my fiancee looked at a beautiful, huge e-ring in Zales, but he decided he didn't want it b/c there were flaws in the stone and he realized that the stones are graded by their own people, they are not GIA certified. He wanted a GIA cert (because then it's an industry wide standard) and paid more for my ring (with a smaller stone) but the stone I got is a higher grade. We wanted quality. Zales sells quantity. If you want something giant for a fair price,it 's good. I'd rather have a clean stone with no flaws or inclusions. Plus when you are dealing with a mass market chaion store, you won't always get the service you should for having spent so much. Mine is from Dorothy's fine jewelry in Sayville and she was great!

Re: Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

Awww i am so sorry you are going through this I actually purchased my bm necklaces from them and I had two girls drop out of my wedding party and I go back a couple of days after the 30 day return policy and they said since I did not go back within the 30 days they can only give me a store credit... I asked to speak to a manager and he was not in and I left a message guess what I am still waiting for a phone call... (this was at the smithhaven zales) So i decided to keep them and give one to my mom and one to my FMIL for a just because we love you gift & tell them they just cannot wear on our wedding day...

Good luck and I hope everything works out ~ I would demand to speak to a manager....

I was just thinking the same thing ~ i would call it a day (less stress) and take it elsewhere and just get it fixed... I actually went to Barclay's in Smithhaven (not where FH purchased my ring but because I was at the mall) and my setting prongs got caught and they fixed it in 10 min for + cleaned it to...

I agree..I would bring it to someone who will definately be able to set the stones properly so this doesn't happen again..so sorry you're having to deal with this!

I hope your center stone is GIA certified..... if it is, you can go under any microscope and read the serial # off of the stone to make sure it matches the documents....

Re: Zales engagement rings (VENT!!)

I feel your pain too. My E-ring is from Zales also. Luckily i've had no real issues but i did have a problem with their customer service.

FH bought it in Philly and still has all the papers for it there. I went to my local Zales in Queens to get those nubby things b/c it was a bit loose during the winter and they said that without the actual paperwork with the warranty they wouldn't cover it so I would have to pay, which I would not have any problem doing but that's why he got the coverage! ....:bang

You mean to tell me they can't pull that up in some central computer system somehow?!

Not to mention that they had me waiting to be taken care of for approximately an HALF HOUR! I'm thinking its because I came straight from work and was very dressed down b/c i'm running through the borough all day.... probably after their truant kids....(i'm a social worker). Perhaps they thought I wasn't going to be a big sale and thus not worth their time.....ugh!!!!
