$166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

This came across my desk yesterday and I thought you girls would appreciate it, especially after Vicky1706's post about the TV show on Oxygen last night :

$166 Million 'Bridezilla' Suit Is Dismissed
New York Lawyer
October 18, 2004
By Mark Fass
New York Law Journal
A $166 million claim filed by a disgruntled bride against the company behind the reality TV show 'Bridezilla' has been dismissed by a Bronx Supreme Court judge.
Julia Swinton-Williamson initiated the action against September Films, alleging she had been tricked into participating in the program, in which, according to ads, 'nine brides become nightmares and crumble under the stress of planning their weddings.'
Ms. Swinton-Williamson claimed she was told by producersand cameramen that the show would be called 'Metro Brides,' and that it would be 'responsible and dignified.' But two weeks after her October 2002 wedding, she discovered the true angle of the show.
September Films'misleading statements notwithstanding, Justice Janice Bowman granted the company's motion for summary judgment.
'[The] essence of the plaintiff's action is based on their depiction on camera,' she wrote, 'but nothing thedefendants said made the plaintiffs act in the manner in which they did.'

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

I remeber her -- from the original season! She was not even the worst one!
See, what I find strange was the narcissism that had to exist just to agree to be on the show -- as memory serves, they did not get paid, so it was just that!

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

it was the artsy one - the one who had her dress completly changed right before the wedding - changed the rehearsal dress to the wedding dress - reason she did the show was to advance her acting career one article said

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

OMG! I think I remember one of these girls from one of the boards! It was either here, or on the LI board on theknot. I got engaged in May 2002, and I remember that when I was a newbie, there was a bride talking about how she was going to be on that show. She had said that at first she thought she was going to be on a show called either Manhattan Brides or Metro brides.

Something happened with her gown a couple days before her wedding, so she went outside the store and was crying. I wonder if she is the one who sued!

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

I am sorry but Julia Swinton-Williamson was the older lady that was about 40 who wore the very 80's style dress. She was not the artist. I have watched that show about a million times and Julia Swinton-Williamson was sooooo annoying that I remember who she was because she said her new name over and over and over.

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

OMG those were the two that were most annoying to me!! The artsy one who's stepfather paid for the whole wedding and she spent more time with her gay hairdresser friend than her FH! She was so irritating! And the african american woman was completely annoying..everthing was about her and her day and you could see even her FH was getting annoyed with her!

That is so funny that they tried to sue!

Here we go--it's the link to the Bridezilla portion of the Metro TV site: Bridezilla It looks like, as Deb said, Julia is the really annoying one who had all that wedding stuff packed into her apartment.

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

She was the one who kept going on about being the Queen and demanded to be treated like a Queen right? She kept buying tons of things over the years and her livingroom was packed with shopping bags? I found she was one of the least annoying. I just looked at the link above(Thank You)
I found these two to be the most annoying:
Karen and Emmett, she was very pushy and rude and Miho and Joe, she made him feel like every idea he had was stupid(although some didn't make sense like the dinner bell ). Who was the one that got married on the beach with the barbque and clambake? She had an English planner and the video guy from France. That was an interesting episode.

She's listed at the end with no picture on the link above. That wedding was out of control. It was on Block Island and they flew in the cake! I also found it a little sketchy that she was like 20 and marrying her FATHER'S friend. An age difference is cool, but dating your dad's golfing buddy is a little weird to me.

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

OMG! I forgot about that. Your right I said that the whole show. Then when she told them she hated the cake after they went through so much trouble to get it there and it was what she had ordered. God I hope Im not like them when we start really getting planning.

Re: $166 Million 'Bridezilla' Lawsuit

These reality shows are horrible. I watched the Reality Show Secrets special on VH1, and the people who went on Average Joe didn't even know it was a dating show. They were all told it was something different. These people behind the shows are real cutthroat.
