Re: Anyone Get their Marriage License in Brookhaven/Suffolk??

Ok, I copied this from the Brookhaven Town Hall website - HTH!!!

MARRIAGE LICENSES
The Town Clerk is responsible for issuing a New York State Marriage License to
qualified applicants, as well as recording the marriage with the New York State
Department of Health. The marriage record is on file in this office and in Albany.
Licenses to marry in New York State may be obtained from the Town Clerk's office
regardless of the residence of either of the parties. Once the license is issued, the
ceremony may be performed anywhere in New York State. The requirements for the
issuance of marriage license in the Town of Brookhaven are mandated by the provisions
of the New York State Domestic Relations Laws.
The marriage section of the Brookhaven Town Clerk's office is open Monday through
Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with extended hours on Mondays until 7 PM. Applicants
should arrive a half-hour prior to closing. Both applicants must appear in person.
Applicants must provide two forms of identification. One must be a certified birth
certificate issued by vital records, a certified baptismal certificate from a church, or
citizenship papers or naturalization papers. In addition, the other must be one of the
following forms of photo identification: a valid driver's license, a valid Department of
Motor Vehicle non-driver's I.D., a valid passport, valid United States military
identification or valid green card. Additional information may be requested. If any of the
above documentation is not in English, the party(ies) must provide translated document(s)
that have been translated by a certified translator that is approved by the Town. They
must bring in the original document and the translation.
If divorced, you must bring divorce papers from your most recent divorce and provide
verbal information on how any other marriages ended. Necessary information will be
date of divorce, who initiated the action, and where the divorce was granted.
If the marriage ended due to the death of a spouse a certified copy of a death certificate
will be needed. Click here for an Application for Obtaining a Marriage License.
Fee: $40.00 for the marriage license, payable by cash, local check or money order to the
Brookhaven Town Clerk. A list of officials who perform marriage ceremonies will be
provided upon request.
Transcript of Marriage
A certified 'Transcript of Marriage' can be obtained by applying in person or by mail.
Applicants should bring or mail the completed application to the Town for a copy of their
marriage record along with a photocopy of proper identification (valid driver’s license,
valid non-drivers ID, valid Passport, or certified copy of a birth certificate), along with
your return address and daytime telephone number and fee. Payment may be made in
cash or by check or money order - payable to the Brookhaven Town Clerk. Click here for
an Application for Marriage Transcript.
Fee: $10 per copy

I'm probably going to go to this one too. Is it in that big white building that you can see from North Ocean? Also when do you have to go to get the license?

Re: Anyone Get their Marriage License in Brookhaven/Suffolk??

I just got mine on Friday at the Brookhaven Town Hall. Go there and as you walk in the building go right to the right and you will see a sign that says forms for marraige license. Fill it out and they will call your name. FYI this town hall DOES require your birth certificate. I know some people were saying they didnt have to show theirs but i did.

Re: Anyone Get their Marriage License in Brookhaven/Suffolk??

We went to Brookhaven town hall--just make sure you bring all the documents it says to bring, and your $40 or a check for $40, and you'll be all set (you and your FH have to go together). When we went it took like 20 min tops!

We got ours from here and it was so easy we were in & out within 15 minutes. Just bring your liscense, birth certificate & passport (I'm pretty sure you only need 2 but we brought all 3 just in case).

Re: Anyone Get their Marriage License in Brookhaven/Suffolk??

I went to Smithtown. You go to Town Hall with your Birth Certificate/Baptismal Certificate and Id (driver's license/passport). It's $40.

I may bring a print out of what I posted above from their website then b/c it says right there it can be birth OR baptismal certificate. If FH doesn't find his birth certificate he will be bringing his baptismal certificate instead! Thanks for the heads up!

It is easy go to the town of brookhaven wesite - county clerk - you can fillout the form on line and print it. You and Fh have to go to the clerk's office together with your original birth certificates or certified copy as well as driver license or passports.

We went a few weeks ago and my FH got a copy of his birth certificate (it was $10) and then we got our marriage license ($40). It was pretty quick. Good luck ladies!
