Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

There is an enormous price difference between the two! Whether what you get for your money is worth the amount you would spend is a personal choice, but I feel you definitely do get more for your money at Oheka. The quality of everything is just much better. At Bourne, we noticed a fair amount of peeling paint, and we were also concerned about the number of bathrooms. At Oheka, everything was perfect, and them some. The people we met at Oheka instilled me with a lot of confidence that we wouldn't have to worry about anything if we booked there (tho' we decided against b/c of the money); at Bourne, I felt like I would have had to worry about a lot. If you (or I) could afford it and felt it was worth the money, I would choose Oheka. But depending on how large your wedding is, there are lots of options in between (in terms of price and quality) that you might consider - e.g., Carlyle, Carltun, Vanderbilt Mansion (Oakdale and Centerport), Harrison House.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

I am getting married at the Bourne Mansion, and I have to say, they repainted and it is not peeling! I've also spoken to other girls who have gotten married there, and the bathroom situation was not a problem. There was something about the Bourne that JT and I really liked. It almost feels like you live there when you are in side. I like that it's not 100% polished and they are a smaller operation that Oheka. I do think Oheka is GORGEOUS, but we felt that it was just too over the top. I don't know, we really fell inlove with the Bourne the second we walked in. JMO. Good Luck!
Edited to say: Make sure you look at both places inside and out, don't just go on other's opinions.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

Thanks for the insight.

There is a pretty big price difference, so I guess that is what is holding me back, otherwise there wouldn't be a choice.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

I went to Oheka a few months ago for the garden restoration party. I LOVE the Oheka for the gardens and I think you'd have some amazing pics there. IMO though I wasn't too crazy about the recpetion room, but that's just because it wasn't my style. I am not a big fan of those crystal chandelier things. I found it too stuffy and country-club ish looking but the gardens are something else!! Absolutely gorgeous!!

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

My friend just got married at BM and it was amazing. I have never been to Oheka but I'm sure its amazing also.

I would check out Flowerfield - its not a mansion style hall but the grounds are beautiful and the inside is really beautiful and I'm not just saying that b/c I am getting married there

I wish you luck - both places are wonderful so you can't go wrong with either choice.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

I have never been to the Bourne Mansion, but I am getting married at Oheka. The place is amazing. Every vendor that I have been to has raved about Oheka saying 'its the best place on Long Island.'
I don't think it is possible to go wrong with this choice. But keep in mind, that if you do select it, every vendor magically increases their prices. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I will be happy to answer them.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

Although I've never been to Oheka, I 100% recommend Bourne. We had the wedding of our dreams there and you'd have absolutely nothing to worry about. I did a detailed review, so if you're interested, do a search. Good luck - I hear both are excellent choices!

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

I went through this exact same decision! I was a little naive at the time because since we chose OHEKA, I wasn't planning on everything being so expensive. I thought, well, that will be the bulk of the cost-we can cover the rest. Easier said than done!
My FI still reminds me 'hey, I was fine with Bourne' and my family still remarks how cool it was on the long drive to the mansion.

I don't think you can really put 2 great places together that are at such different price ranges. If Bourne was equal to OHEKA then they would charge the same.
You have to just think what's more important to you, a huge expensive wedding and debt leading into your married life
or a great wedding at a good price with less stress on the relationship and new marriage and more fun things to budget. For instance, if we went with Bourne there could have been a lot of additional things I wanted with no problem, plenty of room in the budget.
Either way, everything will be fabulous.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

Question...How much of a difference is there in the price? I booked Bourne Mansion in January and got A GREAT DEAL, however the per person plate at Bourne can now be up to $160 per person and a $4000 site fee. How much is OHEKA?? i heard they dropped the site fee but just charge more per person....Does anyone know??

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

When I booked it, it was about double for both site fee and per head charge.

Re: Bourne Mansion or Oheka Castle?

Well if that's the case it's a BIG Difference. You better go check it out and really see which one you like better. Oheka is beautiful but one of my good friends got married there so I didn't want the same place as her.
GOOD LUCK...Whatever place you pick it will be PERFECT!!!
