Crescent Beach Club Club Administrative fee??

Hi Ladies!
I fell in love with The Crescent Beach Club as soon as I got engaged and starting looking at venues to host my beach wedding. I got a quote for June 2014 dates and it includes a 20% Administrative fee which I still don't totally understand and was wondering if anyone else has a better understanding and could help me out! The Events Manager informed me that every place has it so I wasn't sure how it worked. Thanks!!

Every venue has this fee. Just understand it is not gratuity which is the assumption I was under when I first started looking at venues.

Yeah just about all venues charge an additional 20% and tax on top of that.... The only venues that I know that do not chage the service fee are Sand Castle and Floral Terrace.

Yea, unfortunately a 20% fee is standard. Some call it an administrative fee, some call it a service charge.

Yes, this is what I was going to say. At first I thought the 20% was the tip at the other venues I went to see.

The place I am going to book with charges 22%, though most places are 20%. I think we went to one place that was 18%...Every place is different though the norm seems to be 20%

It's just administrative. Basically like a service fee that goes toward helping to pay their staff and bills. I think they should just raise the price a little and make it inclusive of the fee, but I guess it's the norm.

It's definitely not a tip.

yeah that administrative fee is standard...so you pay the price per person, then add on tax, then the 20% administrative fee- my bridal manager explained this is how they get paid for the night!

It's considered a gratuity at my venue even though they call it a service charge (i think they do that so they can tax it..ugh). My BM told me the only person not covered is the Maitre'D

This!! It really depends on your contract so read or ask the bm what it covers. Mine covered all tips except the MD and BA

Ditto. Same for my venue.
This is my second marriage and what I remember from my first one...you pay the 18% on top of the total bill and then a separate tip for your BM and bridal attendants

THIS! Look at it this way. The admin/service fee covers the banquet manager who sets up all your wedding details before your big day. The tips you hand out the night of your wedding are for the Maître d and bridal attendant.

It was explained to me that venues used to call it 'gratuity' and then use it to pay costs and the servers never saw it. NY State made a law that said they had to use gratuity to give to people who worked the evening as tip, so instead the halls now call it a 'fee' so they can get away with using it to pay bills.

Servers don't see any of the '20% fee' as tip. They just get paid through their normal paycheck unless we tip them... I thought it was all included when I signed my contract, and then realized it wasn't. Guess it's not really included anywhere you go now.
