-Dowling Vanderbilt Mansion- no more weddings?

Hello all! My fiance and I are on the hunt for the perfect location. We want something a little outside the box. My mother went to Dowling College and told me about the vanderbilt mansion- I would love to have the reception there. However, I called the number listed online and lessings answered and said the school no longer allows weddings there. Does anyone know if that is true or could there be another caterer that is using the property now? The pictures look amazing online!

It's true, the Vanderbilt doesn't have weddings anymore. Something happened with the school taking back full ownership. BUT the Bourne right next door is still up and running. It holds more people. You should check it out!

My fiance worked there and was laid off last year-the school is in massive trouble financially-I honestly dont know how it is even running with the amount of people that they have remaining. I would definitely believe that they are no longer booking weddings as their future is quite shakey.

before we booked our venue, i had called lessings and they just lost the contract with dowling. i was so bummed we couldnt look at it. this was back in 2010, i believe. and i still dont understand why its even listed on the lessings site. makes no sense.

It's SO weird to me that it's still on their, how odd and misleading.

OP: also look into the De Seversky Mansion at NYIT, it may fit your vision

My fiance worked there too, up until this September, and got laid off as well. The school's definitely in trouble!

Dowling owns the building. It is on their Oakdale campus.

Speaking of schools - dowling should reconsider using it for weddings and use the NYIT model!
