For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

I just got a call that my dress, veil, and slip are in. That's great but I am not getting married until July! How long will they keep the dress there before I really have to go and pick it up? I know that they won't keep it until next summer, but the longer I can keep it there the better. How did you guys deal with this?

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

They will only hold it for 30 days, and after that they are not responsible. I got my dress a week ago and my wedding is october 2006

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

Pick it up asap, i just got mine in. I don't trust that place very much to hold it. I am keeping it hanging in my parents closet. After it is steamed I will lay it on their guest bed.

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

Yes, my Mom thinks I should. She said if you bring your dress elsewhere and they mess it up you have no reprecusions, but if you get it done at Davids, at least they sold you the dress. Plus I met one of the alteration ladies and she seemed VERY nice and that she knew what she was doing.

Pick up your dresses ASAP. They only hold it for a month. You may want to get your dresses alterted elsewhere. They don't have a good reputation on that. Good luck

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

Pick up your dress right away! And DON'T LOSE YOUR RECEIPT! David's will only hold dresses for a limited time. When the Carle Place store lost my order for a bridesmaid gown, first I was accused of not picking it up right away. I was informed that they sell dresses not picked up promptly, then when they realized that there was no record of my order, I had to PROVE that I had ordered the dress. Fortunately I still had the receipt! This was a few years ago and hopefully they have gotten their act together since.

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

Carle place location is where I got mine- 1 week is what they said I had to pick it up- I am glad I got my butt there b/c I dont trust them 1 bit especially with them giving me a dress from another store that was dirty- oh my mom went off- they said its an off the rack store- you dont get new dresses- well my mom made a stink and we got a NEW dress but not until 4 weeks b4 my wedding and we ordered it 7 months before the wedding!!!!! and yes do yourself a favor and have ONLY them alter it- if there is a problem with someone else doing it - they WILL NOT help you further to fix the dress and you will have to order and pay for another!
besides the nightmare with the first dress wrong color, 2nd right dress but wrong size, 3rd dress dirty dress and 4th finally the right color and size and NEW 4 weeks prior to the big day- they did a GREAT job with the alterations.

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

They told me I had 5 days to pick it up, so you might want to call and check.

I picked mine up a year before my wedding, and kept it in a non-plastic garment bag (they sell them on ebay, if DB doesn't have any.) and put it in a closet where it was safe. It was fine.

How long is it ok to keep it in the plastic garment bag? I do not want my dress to get yucky. Someone told me also that I can wrap it in a sheet.

Re: For those of you who got your dress at David's Bridal...

I am getting married next September. I orderered the dress from DB in August and it came a few weeks later-tiara,veil, slip and all. I went and got it immediately. They said they do not have the room to store the dresses. They gave me a white garment bag to put everything in. I brought it home within 5 days of it comming. I don't recommend anyone leaving it there! I brought it home and looked at it very carefully. I am going to have my mom do another check for me. Good to have another set of eyes look at it. Keeping it in the bag is ok. Be sure that it is kept in a dry, cool, dark place and it should be just fine. I have heard MANY alteration nightmare stories from there! Not to say that there couldn't be someone with a positive story. I think I will feel more comfortable having someone private do it. DB can feel like a mill and will all those dresses there, I really rather have someone more dedicated. Just my opinion.
