Re: Hand Canceling?
I asked the post office about hand canceling and the manager told me that all envelopes go through a machine even hand cancelled ones.I recently sent out my invitations without hand canceling and the outer envelopes and invitations arrived in excellent condition.

I hope you're right b/c going all the way to the city to do this is going to be a hassle.
Thanks

Re: Hand Canceling?
I asked the PO if I shoudl have them hand cancelled when I brought one to get weighted and figure out the postage. She said it would be a good idea.I brought them to the PO told them I wanted them hand canceled and she took the box and said she would do it. That was it! No different than if I had brought them to be mailed!
ETA - I didn't bring them to the city! I just brought them to the Sayville PO around the block from me!

Re: Hand Canceling?
I sent my invitations out of the grand central post office. It could be that the manager that I spoke to didn't want to be bothered with hand canceling, it is a large post office. Maybe if I went to a small post office then they would have been more accommodating.Ask your local post office.

Same here!! I mailed ours out last week w/o the hand cancel, and they all looked great when my guests received them.
FYI - they sometimes (definitely in Brooklyn and NYC) charge you for hand canceling too, even when you do it yourself at the PO.

Re: Hand Canceling?
I didn't even ask them to hand cancel my invites, but the lady did it anyway.
They still went through the machine though b/c it had the bar code across the top.

Re: Hand Canceling?
I went to my local post office in brooklyn and mine were hand canceled (I got one return to sender so I can see it wasn't put through the machine). It did not cost me any money. I asked for hand canceling and the woman there said it goes to the main facility and is hand canceled there.

Re: Hand Canceling?
I didn't have to ask to have them hand cancelled--the woman at my PO volunteered to do it. I think it helps that I'm in there 3 times a week picking up my mail!Welcome New Vendors
