Re: HOneymoon?? Aruba or Cabo San Lucas??

Well, I went to St. Maarten for my HM but I just went in October, actually, to Cabo and loved it. We stayed at Villa Del Palmar which was gorgeous--but there was a hurricane our last day. Oct. is generally the season for bad weather there so I'd be careful.

Re: HOneymoon?? Aruba or Cabo San Lucas??

I'm going to Aruba, though I did look at Cabo. I liked what Aruba had to offer more. Some hotel suggestions:

Occidental Grand Aruba -- an all inclusive, just completed a multi-million dollar renovation (I'm staying there.)

Bucuti Beach Resort - VERY popular on Trip Advisor. People rave about the Tara Suites and I know its a very, very big place for honeymooners because its quiet. Personally, I need options other than the beach...so if you do too, this may not be the place for you.

The Hyatt is also popular -- supposed to be beautiful.

A friend proposed to his fiance at the Wyndam - he said that was nice. And they have an all inclusive option if you want it.

Re: HOneymoon?? Aruba or Cabo San Lucas??

We too looked at both Aruba and Cabo for our HM and ended up going to Cabo because we felt we'd get more for our money. Aruba is beautiful but everything is expensive there because its imported. Cabo is pretty reasonable and there are tons of places to get cheap food/beer etc if you dont feel like being fancy. There are some great restaurants there too.

We stayed at Dreams Resort in Cabo and it was absolutely gorgeous - all inclusive too.

I would recommend looking on Trip Advisor for ideas. Its a great site to see what others have said about places. Keep in mind when you look on there that you will always find people who complain about little things, but if there are lots of people who complain about the same thing in their review, then its probably not a good place to go to.

Dito to what otherme posted. We stayed at Dreams also and loved it.

I went to Aruba about 4 years ago and actually thought there was far more to do in Cabo. The only thing you may want to consider is the fact that there is only 1 or 2 swimable beaches in Cabo and the sand is really coarse

We went to Aruba for our honeymoon too. Our wedding was in October, so we wanted to stay away from anything that was in the hurricane belt. It only rained once while we were there and it was overnight so we never knew.

Good point, IrishBride. The sand is VERY coarse and el sharko was in the water (right near the sand with his little fin sticking up!) the whole time we were there so we didn't go in; there was also a flag indicating no swimming due to the strong current.

Re: HOneymoon?? Aruba or Cabo San Lucas??

I am going to see a Travel agent this weekend. What should I expect price wise for about 8-9 days? I heard that you shouldn't do All Inclusive for Aruba because there are so many good restaurants. True?

We did Aruba for our HM and did the all inclusive- its good for breakfast and lunch if you stay on the property and if you are a drinker, but for us it was a waste of money cause we were all over the place, and we didnt think it was expensive at all!!!! at the fancy restaurants yes but they are comparable to here in NY. we absolutely LOVED aruba. Ive been to puerto vallarta which is not too far from cabo and HATED the beaches over there, too rocky. there is a TON to do and see in ARUBA!!!! Some nights we ate at the hotel we stayed at the wyndham, if you stay there ask for suite 900 - OMG the room is huge and you have 2 balconies facing each side of the ocean. ahhhhhhh wish I was there! oh and be warned breakfast IS expensive ask for vouchers if you dont do the all inclusive. but lunch and dinner not expensive and the shopping is cheap too!

Definatly check tripadvisor.com. i didn't stay at any of these, but here are my impressions:

They are all in the high rise area. Stuff is easy to walk to, but the beaches are narrow and it can be hard to get a beach chair - people 'reserve' them with towels really early in the morning. There is also a low rise area that's wider, from what I've heard.

The Hyatt's grounds are beautiful, but not my taste, a little too 'much' for my taste.

THe Wyndham is one tall building, but the terraces looked nice and big, and the inside was nice. They have a fun bouy-type thing in that water on their beach that you can swim out to and jump off of.

The radisson was the prettiest hotel we saw. Very lush, tropical grounds. Lots of pools.

Marriott - didn't walk around, just saw it from the beach. The terraces look nice and big, its at the end of the high rise area, so there's a little more seclusion.

HTH!

Re: HOneymoon?? Aruba or Cabo San Lucas??

Definitely Aruba - it's out of the hurricane belt, has great weather year-round, and is a desert island so you don't have to worry about too much rain or humidity.

I was just there a few months ago - I posted a long review on the Honeymoon board reviewing hotels and restaurants. I would not do all-inclusive because there are tons of restaurants. Many are expensive but no more so than Manhattan I think, and there are some cheaper ones that are still really good.

Re: HOneymoon?? Aruba or Cabo San Lucas??

Hi and Welcome!

I went to Cabo (got engaged there!! ) and Aruba for my honeymoon. Personally I like Aruba better. There's the typical stuff to do in both places, snorkeling, fishing, waverunners and all that stuff, I just HATED the vendors on the beach bothering us EVERY DAY in Cabo. It really drove me crazy. You couldn't even enjoy the beach because there were a million Mexicans selling all this crap to you.

And they were everywhere, wherever you walked, even the restaurants trying to get you to eat in their places. I personally freaked out one day screaming that I didn't want to buy anything, I just wanted to enjoy my friggin' vacation.

Oh, and I got terribly sick from something, the water I assume, and was throwing up terribly all night the night I got engaged, how nice.....I was sick for weeks.

I guess you can tell I like Aruba better! We even bought a timeshare there while we were on our HM!
