Massapequa Preserve- photo location???

Those of you who know what it is and have been there...do you think I could get some cool shots here on my wedding day?

I originally wanted to do the Jones Beach Boardwalk, but being that its labor day weekend I think the beach will be waaaay to crowded. The only other place my photographer could really think of was OWG- but I just can't spend another $400 just to have a background for pics- its just NOT in the budget. Besides the fact that it is about 40 minutes from the church and RH (which are about 3 minutes apart) and I am intent on making my CH- or at least most (or even some!) of it.

So, I am looking for other options. The Massapequa reserve is about 5 minutes away, might be a little crowded with bicycles, but I figure if we go off the main trail we could get some cool pics in the woods (a la Kittythestray's day after pics)

Has anyone done this? Would anyone ever consider it?

I googled some images: Google Image Results

Please suggest other options if you can think of any!

Re: Massapequa Preserve- photo location???

I haven't been there in a long time (I'm a former Massapequan) but I'm guessing it might not be the best you can get for wedding pics. I'd love to find a nice local place too! My sister took hers at Marjorie Post, but I wouldn't recommend it now. Although her pics were nice!

Then again- a photographer can make even the most boring of scenery look great! Definitely check it out first in person and see how you feel....

ooh.. I don't know about that.. I have walked through there and it sometimes you feel like you need a machete to get through the foilage.. I would recommend some where on the north shore .. like westbury gardens, planting fields ( I am doing day after photos there) Vanderbuilt..

What about SUNY Farmingdale? It's near Massapequa. They have a horticulture department so they have an amazing garden there. I saw someone on here had pics done there. I'm hoping to do my pics there. I believe the fee is $250.

Re: Massapequa Preserve- photo location???

There are some really cool spots there. I grew up in Massapequa. I actually had a photographer from the city come out to me once to do headshots. I don't have any on this computer, but I will try and post some later. It's more for the woodsy natural feel..like walking down a path. Not as many flowers.

And as the girl above suggested SUNY Farmingdale (I went to school there) has a nice garden area with cool spots. I would look into that too!

My mom used to work for Farmingdale- 20++ years!! I keep telling her she has to get me in for free but she says she can't. At least try!

I know, they do need that $$ for their horticulture program- but $250?!?!?!

Re: Massapequa Preserve- photo location???

The preserve can be pretty...i second someone's suggestion of majorie post park- i took prom pictures there, and they came out georgous- we were all playing on the swings and stuff in our gowns- how about the Bayfront Park at the end of East Shore Drive in Nassau Shores? There is a dock there that overlooks the open bay
