Narragansett Inn

I know this is a little off topic, but does anyone feel bad/sad about the devastation at the Narragansett Inn? I don't know why I feel soo bad but I went to a co-worker's wedding there a few years back and I was always the first to rave about 'Southwood Caterer's' bridal expos (which were the best I've ever been to). I can still see the place in my mind, it was very nice. It just makes me feel sad that soo many people spent such quality moments there (soo many memories created) and it's gone. I'm somewhat relieved that I didn't opt to have my reception there. According to news reports, the place closed in January 2000. My wedding was 03/25/2000. That would have sucked! I get soo nostalgic when places that hold special memories for people (like roller rinks, catering halls) see their demise. Someone please pass the kleenex!:(

Narragansett Inn

I have never been there but I watched it on the news last night. I know exactly what you mean. It is sad to watch something that means so much to so many people get destroyed.

Did they demolish the building?? I just passed it Tuesday...

and it was still there. But I agree too. It is a shame to see places like that fall apart. I remember feeling bad about the recently converted Vanderbilt in Plainview. A friend of mine had her reception there before it shut down and reopened as The Vanderbilt .. but at least it reopened. If I recall correctly, for a while it seemed like nothing was happening with it after it shut down. I do miss those Drive-In movies!

Oh! Now I know the story...

From what I read tonight, there was a fire Wednesday night. But the building had been vacant since something like January 2000. I always wondered what was going on there, because it looked like it had been neglected and abandoned. From what I understand, they`re calling the fire suspicious, and I don`t blame them. They`re already talking about developing the land for hundreds of townhouses! Geez, has the ground even cooled yet from the fire? The building was to be domlished Thursday. This is truly a shame .. that building was so old.
