Permits Required for Jones Beach, Robert Moses, etc...
Happy Monday everyone...so it seems I am getting conflicting reports on whether or not I need a permit to do some engagement photos at Jones Beach. Has anyone done a shoot at any of the state parks...preferably the beaches...and had any experiences in which you were questioned for a permit??? My shoot is on Saturday and nothing seems to going in the direction we want :O(

I was told you needed to contact the department of parks and recreation, fill out an application and mail it with a $100 check. When I was looking at a park for my wedding pics, they said it's at least a 2 week turnaround time to receive it so I'd call them asap and see what they can dohere's the application

I've never heard of this. What about when you go to the beach with your friends or family and take a couple of pictures? ? ?

That's what I thought too...I have messaged a couple of girls on here who I saw took pix at Jones and one got back to me and said no permit was required....it's a bit ridiculous...it's a public beach and I already have to pay to park...why should I have to pay to take pictures in a public area!!!

We took our engagement photos at Jones Beach field 2 on a weekday evening in May. I knew the only trouble we might get would be 'If you aren't playing softball, you can't park here/use the park.' So we just told them we were there for the softball games. It was pretty quiet other than that initial convo and we weren't bothered after that.Honestly, I agree in that its a public park and if you are already paying for parking, why do you need a permit? I would just go and if someone asks you didn't realize you needed a permit. Especially this time of year, there won't be too many people patrolling the park to give you trouble anyway.

the only reason we had to get a permit was because our photographer wouldn't shoot us unless we had obtained it. And I know a lot of other companies are the same way.if you photographer never asked you for it, then don't bother getting it. I agree with you, it's a waste of money
