Please Post Pictures of Non-Fondant Wedding Cakes

Next weekend we are meeting with our catering hall and I need to show them a picture of the cake I want at my wedding. Most of the cakes I've been seeing are fondant, which I don't love and which my catering hall doesn't do. So...help! Please? TIA!!

ETA: our colors are white, wine, and light pink!

Re: Please Post Pictures of Non-Fondant Wedding Cakes

I wanted a fondant cake because I like the way they look. But I also wanted a red velvet cake which traditionally has cream cheese icing - which I was told would either not be possible or would not taste good in fondant.
So here is my cake w/ cream cheese icing

Re: Please Post Pictures of Non-Fondant Wedding Cakes

How funny.. I just save like tons of wedding cakes to my computer this morning... These are all from Audrey's bake shop website which can be accessed from the Lovin Oven Webpage. All of them are buttercream except the one with the bows... that is butter cream and the bows are fondant.

ETA: Not all are pink but that can be easily changed

Re: Please Post Pictures of Non-Fondant Wedding Cakes

As far as I understand, fondant is that shiny, hardened, shell-like icing (versus buttercream or whipped cream, which is fluffier and less shiny). That's all I know...

Re: Please Post Pictures of Non-Fondant Wedding Cakes

Fondant is yucky... IT LOOKS AWESOME but tastes kind of funny. It is rolled out on the cake to make a smooth apearance or make cool designs... These cakes are fondant.

Actually, if the fondant is made right, it tastes really good. Some have a sweet vanilla flavor or a marshmellow flavor.

Re: Please Post Pictures of Non-Fondant Wedding Cakes

I was told that all though it looks nicer its GROSS - the thatched cottage also said that they can pretty much make a cake look like the fondant its the flowers that are the difficult part so you are better off using fresh flowers.
