Ring Guards

Hi Everyone!
I recently lost weight and now my engagement ring is a bit too big for my finger. I'm thinking of getting a ring guard for the ring. Has anyone done that? Or, did anyone get those balls put onto the ring?
Thanks!

Re: Ring Guards

I had a ring guard on my ring when I first got it and they told me that the gurd would not last forever so i eventually had it sized. Plus it looks a little funny everytime I took it off

Re: Ring Guards

We actually just had a discussion about this the other day...I had the balls put on from where my ring was purchased (Zales). They did it while I waited and it took 15 minutes...

heres a pic...

Re: Ring Guards

i say go for the 'balls' i got them the other day and they are so comfortable you cannot feel them

and plus when you cut your ring to resize it its cutting away the value of the ring- cause there goes some white gold or platinum right off your ring

plus a ring guard will scratch the hell outta your ring- go with the balls or the shank

Re: Ring Guards

I got a ring guard, which is basically a piece of metal and the ends wrap around the band. It slides around since it's not sodered in place. My platinum band is completely scratched up now

Re: Ring Guards

balls all the way, i had the ring guard for a week and couldnt take it cause it pinched my finger. Then I got the balls put in and its a world of difference!! Plus they can be taken out when summertime etc. comes along.

GO GET YOURSELF SOME BALLS

I recomment Polaris in Bellmore on Bedford though you may not live in Nassau..

Re: Ring Guards

Thanks for everyone's replies! I actually went to Claire's Accesories today and they sell plastic ring guards. They're softer than the metal ring guard and easily put on and removed on your own. I'm not a fan of the balls, quite honestly, and I want to see what happens in the summer if/when my fingers swell.

As for re-sizing, I don't think that's the best idea. My dad was a diamond-setter a number of years ago and according to him re-sizing, can, at times, totally screw up one's ring.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!!

Re: Ring Guards

I'm not sure what I am going to do. I was going to take my ring in to get sized but maybe I'll try the balls.

Ok, don’t laugh at my crappy MS Paint drawing, but this is what I have…

The jeweler sodered a piece of white gold (could have been plat if wanted) on my ring shank, basically doubling the thickness of the shank. This makes the ring smaller, and is totally comfortable. I’ve heard people complain about the comfort of ‘shots’ (the balls), but this feels just like your real shank, and the jeweler can easily remove it.

I was adamant about not cutting the ring FH gave me in order to size it, so this was a good option for me (I needed to go down ¾ size)

HTH!

I heard this is the correct way to 'resize' your ring. The only thing is, do you have to leave your ring there overnight?

What is it you don't like about the balls? They are so comfortable you don't even know they are there. I have tried the plastic ring guard and I find the balls much better. Plus...they can be removed very easily. I know everyone is different...I'm just curious why you don't like the balls.

Really this conversation sounds so funny.

Re: Ring Guards

I actually had my ring resized -- but by the jeweler who designed it, and it was handmade, so it came out perfectly.
