White roses turn brown?

I have heard that white roses bruise easily and often turn brown even before the reception...so much so that someone we know had fresh flowers except for the white roses...she used silk. Have you heard about this?

Re: White roses turn brown?

I have seen this happen with my cousin's bouteniere (sp?) when he got married. It was a small bud onhis lapel but by then of the night it was open and discolored.

I also remember going to prom and having a white rose corsage and it was brown by the end of the night.

But I would ask your florist. Depending on what type of bouquet you have, it might not happen. I would think it would not happen if it was a winter wedding or if you were having a cascading bouquet where it would be in wet foam.

Re: White roses turn brown?

I would also guess that it is dependent on your 'treatment' of the rose. I met with my florist on Saturday and he stressed the importance of keeping them in air conditioning (especially during travel) and not handling them much (i.e., travel with them in the box and not with the BMs who will likely not be so careful). HTH!

Re: White roses turn brown?

I would also guess tha tit depends on how the bouquet is treated throughout the day. But I would talk to your florist about it.

Re: White roses turn brown?

I di\on't know if it is true or not...Only can speak from my own experience..

I had cream roses in my BM's bq's and in my CP's.....No browning what-so-ever.

Re: White roses turn brown?

i've had it happen to me, but not at a wedding. Like the other ladies said, I'm sure it's all about treatment of the roses/keeping them wet.

Re: White roses turn brown?

If the roses get touched and smooshed a lot (especially after hugging tons of people w/ a bouttoniere on or a corsage) they will turn brown. But in a bouquet they should be just fine.
