Anybody rent out of their house ?

We rent our basement to a couple who are our friends. The dude is super helpfull with projects we have going on at the house.. ie at 9 this morning hes working on our lawn. We dont really ask for this help 90% of the time but since he helps so much I wonder if some rent should be knocked off. Dh says hes doing as a friend and that rents kinda a deal already, need an outside opinion. They pay 850 have basement and like 1/2 garage use the only we share is the laundry room in the basement.

If he's already helping out with stuff maybe he feels since you're cutting him a break on rent this is his way to make it up to you??

i'm sure they'd love to pay less rent.

otherwise you guys could just take them out to dinner?

... but as a renter -- we'd rather pay less rent lol.

how big is their sapce? do they get to use the washer and dryer? does the $850 include all ? like cable water lipa.

if you want to do something nice, i would take like $100 or so off their rent in december

it will probably help them since usually everyone is tight for $$ in december, and its like you are thanking them for the year.....

thats very sweet but where is he going to find another place at that price to live in with laundy too. i say hes getting a good price already.

That's a really low rent...I probably wouldn't do anything substantial.

Maybe occasionally bake some cookies or take them to dinner? I do like Janis' suggestion about lowering the rent in December only. That's a pretty cool idea.

My former landlady used to go to FL for the winter and we had negotiated that while she was gone, I would take care of the snow and I would pay a decent chunk less for those months...regardless of if it snowed 3 inches or 3 feet. That was always nice

Thanks yall some good ideas, yea rent includes all cable/internet and we share the washer / dryer. Were definately going to treat them to a sweet *** bbq and Im going to suggest to the hubster some of these ideas

DH's friend rents our basement and DH gave him a small break on the rent. Friend also uses the garage and the driveway as his leisure. I think it's fair. He pays about $950. We pay for his heat, cable and internet.
