bathroom remodel SPIN OFF
So DH and I bought our house and already remodeled a lot of it. The bathrooms are going to be our next big project. Here is what we've been arguing about.
Our house currently has one full bath and 2 half baths. well, one is halrdly a half bath right now since it's kind of randiomly in the laundry room. The full bath (accessible via hallway) and half bath (in the master bedroom) are side by side.
DH wants to knock down the wall between them and make one large kick arse bathroom.
I want to redo both separately because we will lose a toilet/sink upstairs....won't that bring the value of the house down?
Another area of argument is DH really wants a stand up shower. I LOVE those but I'm thinking more long term for buyers when we do decide to sell. I think most families look for a bathtub?
There is nowhere else to add another bathroom in the house. We looked into adding one full in the bathroom but it will be a lot of money maybe not even possible because of the plumbing.
what do you girls think?
would you rather have one large bathroom or one small full and an additional half bath?
Do you think a stand up shower ONLY would negatively affect the house?

I personally dont like a stand up shower only because of the shower door. I hate shower doors- the ledge , cleaning them, also after a while any of the ones I have come in contact with never close right and you get water all over. This is the reason why we have to do the bathroom over- the shower had a door that didnt close right over the years and the floor around it started to disintergrate. Now you can practically put your foot through the foor

I agree - I'm not a big fan of stand up showers alone. That's how my apartment is now - a standup shower (sort of inset into a wall, if you will), and then the bathtub separately. Mine is also a bit small - not good for two
But in my house growing up we had a bathroom with a standup shower and it was like the 'reject' bathroom lol. We only really used when two people had to shower at the same time and didn't want to wait.

speaking as someone who works in the real estate field, having ONLY a stand up shower WILL negatively affect the resale value of your home. Most buyers like to have both, a stand up shower and a tub, so if you decide to break down the ½ bath and make one large bathroom, put both in. That way, he will have his stand up shower and the tub is still there in the future. Also, consider this - your going to have a wonderfuly cute, but dirty little baby in the next few months. Eventually, it will be too big to wash in those baby tubs that they sell - so having a tub will make it eons easier for you to wash the baby.
Keep in mind that different buyers look for different things in homes so you will never satisfy everyone - you have to ultimately make your home right for you while you live in it.
