Changing Your Name

Ok, so clearly I am a very newly wed - I didn't even know this forum existed! I have been posting questions in the other forums not realizing this is where I need to be!

Ok, so I am changing my name - where do I start?! I am really dreading this. Any advice, pointers, things you ladies would have done differently?

TIA!

Re: Changing Your Name

I'm so bad and I haven't even changed it with SS yet and I'm hitting a year! It's on my list of things to do this week while me boss is away.

I went to DMV and did that first (change license and reggy). I contacted my credit cards and sent in letters. I went on my insurance websites (renters and car) and changed that too. I just did my passport before I went to Italy and I SWEAR I am going to send in my SS this week!

Yep, same here. The DMV (in Hauppauge) asked me for my new SS card. I've read on here that other DMVs didn't ask but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Still have to do my passport... at least before my Jamaica trip in may!

Re: Changing Your Name

Thanks everyone! This is really helpful. I found a web site that you purchase a membership and it basically automatically fills out all the forms for you. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it?

Personally I feel it isn't worth it. Go online fill out the needed forms for as and DMV. Don't forget registrations and titles as well! Its the same form for registration and title. Very easy.
