Cooking Responsibilites!
How many of you actually cook every single night for DH? (maybe not weekends, but def during the weekdays)Do you l ike it? DO you hate it?
I'm somewhat leaning towards hating it. Idon't hate cooking but i hate coming up with something to eat every single day and i hate getting home so late and knowing that DH is starving at home and then trying to make something fast so we can eat before 9pm

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
I didn't start cooking until we were married. Lately I haven't been cooking all the much but I usually cook 4 out of 5 nights during the week and maybe one on the weekend (usually Sundays). I got back from Italy and lifes just been too crazy but I'm starting to get back into it.I actually like cooking. I like coming up with something or trying something new and DH liking it. If it's going to be a late night I usually try to make a pasta of some sort (with sauce or veggies). Now that's is summer, we BBQ a lot which is quick and easy too with some veggies on the side. If I think about what to make the night before, I take it out of the freezer and then look up recipes throughout the day. I just go to a website and look up different things for chicken or fish or meat. Most things give a time on how long it takes so I only go for the 30 minutes and under recipes.
ALSO, Rachel Ray has a 30 minutes or less cookbook. I highly recommend getting that. One other things is crock pot! When I was working until 4 or 5 every single day and knew I had a meeting after work I would throw something in the crock pot and tell DH not to wait for me to eat. This way I didn't feel bad that he was starving and I didn't have to cook after a long day.

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
yeah, cooking responsibilities are all me, baby
I actually generally like to cook but you're right, the time factor on weekdays is what bothers me. I like planning meals on weekends. weekday meals are fast stuff because we are both usually starving.
stock up on stuff that cooks up fast like chicken tenders, shrimp, ground meats (good for tacos, chili, add to store sauce for pasta), and bagged salads. Spinach in garlic and oil = super fast side dish!
eta: some things are worth it to buy prepped for you. For xample, I use a lot of garlic and i can't be bothered with peeling all those damn cloves
so i buy the close pre peeled and then it's just wam bam, put it in the garlic press, strifry some shrimp in there with some chili flakes, etc

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
I thank my lucky stars that DH cooks for me every night. It's the BEST. That being said, he gets home around 5pm every day whereas I get home around 8pm if not later. If things were reversed, I'm sure I'd cook. I also think I'd be pretty terrible at it and it would stress me out on a daily basis.
DH and I have some like unwritten agreement that he cooks every day and I clean. Not just the dishes, but the actual apartment. It works for us.

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
Cooking is all me - I usually get home between 7:45pm and 8:00pm, change outta work cloths, wash my hands and get to work LOLDH knows this is the schedule so he usually tries to snack a little bit and he stays out of my way LOL
I'm not done and out of the kitchen till 9 or 9:30 BUT i do enjoy cooking.
I try to do it at least 4 times a week - friday and the weekends, HECK NO, Unless we do a big Sunday dinner.
I usually think of what I'm going to make the night before. I take everything out after I clean up that I need for the next day so everything is ready to go (anything that doesn't need to be in the fridge). If I need ideas I get ideas online during the day.
Something that has helped me - read the recipes on the back of the items in your kitchen. I found one last night, yea I didn't have EVERYTHING you needed but i had enough to make the essential part of it and it was fantastic.
Stove Top boxes have TONS of recipes on them. Even the Philadelphia cream sauce stuff, i used that last night and DH LOVED it. Rice boxes too, they have tons of easy and quick recipes.

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
DH travels a lot so cooking for one isn't a big deal...However, when he is home, we tend to cook together, sharing the responsibilities. Not for anything, unless I really loved cooking, I would become a little resentful doing it by self. If we're both going to eat, we should be make an effort, I think... and that seems to work for us.
I think he's better in the kitchen than I am, but I would never expect him to do all the cooking alone.
A friend was getting rid of a ton of Cooking Light magazines, so i ripped out a whole slew of recipes from there, so now we have many new ones to try out!

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
I usually cook during the week, but he also sometimes will make something for us when he knows I'm tired and just not in the mood to do it. I def enjoy doing it though and especially love it when he tells me I did an awesome job. If I think the meal sucks, I'll wait for him to take a first bite before I do
I also try to limit meals that I make during weekday to 45 minutes so we don't eat too late in the night and I'm not slaving over hte oven. He's the one that usually makes breakfasts on the weekend.
Trader Joe's has also helped -- it makes him feel like a real cook when he cooks up already prepared food

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
I love to cook but never do during the week. Jerry doesnt eat lunch until 2 or 3 and then doesnt eat dinner till about 9. I cant wait till then. so I will usually make something quick like a salad, wrap or something like that and later he would either make a burger- pizza- steakums for himselfWeekends are when I usually do all my cooking.

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
I cook every night that DH is not traveling (which is all the time) so I am pretty lucky. We both cook on the weekends - he loves to bbq. I actually really enjoy cooking. It is just hard coming up with ideas sometimes.Speaking of, I need to figure out what is for dinner tonight. Thanks for the reminder!!

I cook pretty much every night. I don't like it but I don't hate it. I just feel bad that I'm not the best cook and there isn't a ton of variety. But I do it anyway because I want to make sure we have healthy meals on the table each night.DH is great with helping out though if things are crazy. And now that he has a grill he BBQs for me!

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
Me. I usually cook Monday-Thursday and Sundays. We always go out on Friday nights and take out of go out on Saturdays unless we go over someone's house for dinner.i usually get home around 5:30 so I start making dinner right away. i dont mind cooking but lately have not been in the mood at all,so have been making very easy stuff and lots of BBQ adn veggies on the side which DH does do.
I try to find tons of recipes online and in cookbooks so we are always trying something new, but I do make our favorites a lot. I have a weight watchers cookbook that is one of my favorites. and I also get a lot of recipes from skinnytaste. com and i'm a big fan of Rachel Ray 30 min meals.
MIL made DH's 3 sisters and I a master cookbook of all of her recipes and FIL's recipes that DH grew up on, so I break that out a lot. She is an amazing cook, so we enjoy that cookbook.

Re: Cooking Responsibilites!
Personally, I love it. I enjoy cooking. I mostly do big cooking on the weekends, mainly when I was working full time because who likes coming home to slave over a stove when you've slaved all day at work. So I'd heat up or make something quick that would go with the leftovers from the weekend (big pot of sauce, a meatloaf, chicken, etc).I think it's better to cook because that's how we keep the food bill down and stay healthy. Plus, dinner time is our bonding time.
