switch out the water for a can of diet coke- its sooo good- it sounds nasty, but its really good!
what does the coke do to it? sweeter?
coke is AMAZING for a marinade or slowcooker add on! u don't even taste it - just makes it even more tender! the sugar does somethin' to it

Re: Crock pot
I've made pot roast, chicken and stuffing, chicken cacciatore, stuffed peppers, pork loin and potatoes, and french onion soupMy favorite is the chicken and stuffing---
Put chicken in the bottom of the crock pot, cover with 2 sliced sweet pototoes, mix stuffing with water and butter and put on top cook for 8 hours on low. It is wonderful. I can't eat mushy things so if the stuffing comes out toooo mushy I put it in the toaster oven for about 15 minutes before dinner.

Re: Crock pot
Last week I got country style pork ribs-boneless because they were on sale. I just put them in the slow cooker with sliced onions, a bottle of bbq sauce and 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth and they were delicious. Cooked them for about 6 hours on low. I made mashed potatoes on the side and the pork just shredded. Really good reheated too.ETS: Oddly enough this is my idea of a recipe when I'm not teaching a class. I think it sounds less daunting.
Let me know if you want it in recipe form. ETS again: I apparently cannot read directions.
Sorry-I will think of more ideas for you Heather.

I have that book too but my mom has it right now so I haven't made any recipes out of it. I let her borrow it because she just got a slow cooker. I get the feeling it will be awhile before I get it back.
Is there a recipe for chicken and dumplings in that book? I think I remember seeing a recipe like that that looked good.

Re: Crock pot
I never made this recipe but Epicurious usually has great recipes.Chicken Paprikash with Sour Cream
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon hot paprika
1 garlic clove, peeled and halved
3 pounds chicken legs
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup chicken stock or low-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup sour cream
Fresh dill, chopped, for garnish
Special equipment:
Slow cooker
In slow cooker, stir together onions, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and paprika. Spread mixture evenly over bottom of insert.
Rub garlic halves over chicken, then sprinkle chicken with pepper and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. In medium saucepan over moderately high heat, heat butter and oil until hot but not smoking. Add chicken pieces and brown, turning occasionally, until golden, about 6 minutes. Transfer to slow cooker (do not clean pan), layering chicken on top of onion mixture.
In same saucepan over high heat, bring stock to simmer, scraping up browned bits from bottom of pan. Pour over chicken in slow cooker, cover, and cook on low until chicken is tender but not falling off bone, 5 to 6 hours.
Stir sour cream into sauce. Garnish with dill and serve.

No Chicken and Dumplings in mine. :( The one I bought is Art of the Slow Cooker. The other one they had was a giant hardcover one. It was prolly in that book.
