Crockpot Question

With all this talk about crockpot/slow cooker recipes I am just curious to know....

How many of you leave the crockpot on when no one is home?

I did this once and I was nervous the whole time. Is it really ok?

Re: Crockpot Question

It's really OK.

Thats the point of it.

It's like a lightbulb in there, thats why it takes 8 hours to cook.

It's fine!

Re: Crockpot Question

Everytime I have used it I have been gone at work for the day. The temperature is gets too is so low (which is why you can and have to leave it on so long). The counter never even feel hot from it.

Re: Crockpot Question

its okay bc its really low heat. just make sure nothing is around it that could catch fire. I prefer to do it on the weekends when we are in and out and can check on it, but i have left it for a long time and its fine!

Re: Crockpot Question

I never left it alone while I went to work. I leave for work at 7:30 AM and one of us doesn't get home until 6:30...so that's 11 hours ..most of the recipes I've used call for cooking on low for 6 hours..I have a programmable one which would keep the food warm but I'm iffy on having it keep the food warm for 5 hours..or actually more b/c we don't eat until 8 or so.

I have used it on weekends or when I'm off and then left the house for an hour or two to go to the gym or run errands.
