Express Bus vs LIRR
My mom brought up last night at dinner that there's an express bus to the city from Floral Park and that it would drop me off closer than LIRR would (I'd have to subway it). Has anyone ever taken this bus before? Thoughts?? Opinions?

Re: Express Bus vs LIRR
hey!!!!where will you be working in the city? theres an express bus to midtown and one to wall street. they can be FABULOUS. i took it from fresh meadows one summer when i interned downtown. You can usually get a seat, it's airconditioned and there's a bus HOV lane to get into the city in the AM. The ride home can be a bust if theres major traffic, but as long as you get a seat it is a BREEZE.
its pricier than just a subway ride... but LIRR is pricey if you still need a metrocard to get you to work from penn this could end up saving you money. good luck~!

I'm going to be at 3rd and 42nd - so from what I can see if would let me off right there. Going home I'd have to pick up the bus from another location. I figured it out - it'd be like $150 cheaper a month - but my employer is reimbursing me transit expenses. So basically I'm kinda deciding based on experience I guess. I'd take the 652 train out of FP that some of my friends already take so that's a bonus there. But the bus would drop me off so much closer.

My friend takes the express bus every morning. She says it's great bc she hops on, sleeps for 90% of the ride and then she's at work. Super easy.

1. I didn't know there was an express bus from FP!!!! That would have been GREAT to know when I worked in the city and lived home...2. Franky takes the express bus from our apartment all the time...he LOVES it! It says that it's about the same time because of traffic but there are bus lanes and he doesn't have to worry about the LIRR or subways being messed up.

I used to take the QM1A when I was working downtown and getting to work was a breeze in the morning. I never took it home though, so I can't comment on that part of the ride.

I have a friend that takes the train at the same time as me so I'll have a train buddy. So I'm thinking of keeping the bus as a back up just for this reason.

I would probably do the same thing if I knew someone taking the train but only to come home. In the morning I like to not talk to anyone and just relax LOL! I'm am NOT a morning person. But that's good that you'll have someone to vent about your day or discuss some ideas that you have to bounce off a non-objective person.
