Eye Infection in Dogs?
Hey ladies! My older dog, Irwin, has been itching his whole head like crazy lately. He's always been prone to ear infections so assuming that's what it was, I started giving him the drops. But he's itching his neck, face, and now his eyes. I noticed he has some really bad eye boogers this morning. He gets eye boogers from time to time but this is worse than normal. Anyone know what this might be? Eye infection maybe? I'm gonna try to get him over to the vet tonight when DH gets home, but I was just wondering if there is anything I can do for him in the interim! Thanks ladies!

Re: Eye Infection in Dogs?
Does he have a cone? Maybe you can put that on in the mean time so he doesn't make the infection worse!

Nope, no cone. Well, I still have it but there is NO way it's gonna fit on his big fat head now, he hasn't worn it since he got fixed as a puppy. At least I'm home today so I can keep an eye on his scratching.

it sounds like an eye infection. My dog had really red eyes and tons of goop so I took her to the vet and they said it was infection. They gave me an antibiotic ointment to put on her eyeballs for a week and then it cleared up.hope your doggy feels better!

Eww on his eyeball? Gross! Haha, at least he's not squeamish about his eyes. I have to muzzle him to clean his ears because the stupid first vet we took him to traumatized him!!
Thanks for the info!

haha yes right on the eyeball. DH and I had to work together to hold her down and then hold open her eye bc she wasnt a fan of it, but once you put the ointment on the eyeball it just like melts.
cleaning the ears is usually a 2 man job too...she doesnt love that either

Haha when the vet cleans his ears, FOUR of us hold him down- Me, DH, the vet, and his assistant and he's muzzled! But my vet laughs because that's the only thing he freaks about!! The vet asked last time to leave the muzzle on when he gave him his shots though I told him it wasn't necessary. Irwin didn't even bat an eyelash at the shots he got! Our vet calls him 'My little Crocodile Hunter' because he's named after Steve Irwin.

Re: Eye Infection in Dogs?
my dog is also prone to ear infections. she has them ALL the time. This also causes eye infections. She has an eye infection now too, bad green yucky stuff in her eyes. The doc can give you eye drops like an antibiotic. In the meantime you can use over the counter artificial tears to clean out the gunk or some eye cleaner from the pet shop. good luck !
