Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

Different kind of situation.

DH's cousin's kid's birthday party is this weekend. He'll be two years old. Family has lots of money - party is actually going to be held at a really nice catering hall. No flames on that please, that's just how this part of the family does things. And...the couple whose child it is owns a toy store.

WHAT THE EFF DO WE DO? What kind of presents do you give to a kid whose parents OWN A TOY STORE?

Do we just give cash and call it a day? I'm not asking for an amount - we already know how much we're going to give/spend on a gift. Cash is cool though, right?

Re: Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

I would say cash and maybe put something small with it. . . . a outfit or a disney DVD something along those lines. . .

Re: Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

i know. every other post on LIF is like 'gift giving question.'

i'm saying for this specific instance... its a 2 year old. his parents are obvs loaded.

they dont need money.

that kid doesnt even know what money is.
dont fkking buy tickets for THEM to get to take their kid to some cool show.

buy tickets for you and neel to take them to a show.

or scratch that. buy tickets for NEEL to take the kid to a show.

or i dont even know.

its all out of control. everything is so disgustingly showy.

not an attack on you kris. i just hate the world and people today.

Re: Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

i would still buy a toy ...

kids that age LOVE bath toys ... how about floating blocks, or bathtub crayons, or some sort of water toy that suction-cups to the tub wall and they can pour water into it? (do a search for 'bathtub toys')

Re: Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

Got it, Becki...I see that your ovaries are swordfighting so...yeah

There's good reason why I posted it here and not on LIF...because I don't feel like I relate as much to their hightened standards when it comes to gift-giving LOL...and I really didn't want another thread that would've been a fkn carbon copy of the communion thread from the other day...

Neel just mentioned getting the kid a little drum set. We know for a fact he doesn't have one. And like other people have mentioned, kids love toys so....hmmmm....I think the drum set it is.

yeah, that's a great idea - kids love musical instruments .... but their parents don't quite share the love

Re: Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

I know...noisy and exceedingly messy toys are, IMO, supposed to be given as gifts to children whose parents you don't like.

We love this couple. They are my favorite people in his family, some of the kindest people I know, and the most welcoming of me when we first got involved...a lot of other cousins were very stand-offish.

I'm like, 'Neel, we want them to continue liking us....' I'll just make sure to get a gift receipt. And tell them it was all Neel's idea.

Re: Gift help for a 2-year-old boy!

Maybe call the parents first and ask if its is OK to bring drums into the house first?

We bought my nephew an adorable little wooden piano when he turned 2 (we got approval before purchasing).

Also - what about a gold fish? or would it cause too many probles if/when it dies?

i like the idea of books or dvds. What about puzzles? My nephew loves puzzles.

Even if his parents have money, he's two and doesn't know/care and he will love anything you buy him. big or small!
