Re: Girls please read
WOW Colleen!! That's insane!!! Sorry about that. When i was a kid.... my house was robbed. I was the first one who walked into the house too... and something seemed eerie about it, but I didn't realize someone broke in yet. We had to call the police from the neighbor's house because we didn't know if the robber(s) were still inside or not. It's a scary situation.
Glad you guys are OK. And good job you got a security system. That's a fb post worth posting about!!! 'SECURITY SYSTEM = INSTALLED

That's crazy! Thank goodness you guys are okay! But unfortunately not the first time I've heard of this happening- between facebook and Twitter!!Fortunately I have the best security system around- two giant mean looking dogs!
ETA: This is made even worse by that 'Foursquare' application that let's people 'check in' where ever they are! Crazy!

Re: Girls please read
I remember reading an article on Yahoo or MSN that said not to post personal things on facebook including an upcoming vacation b/c you are announcing that you will not be home for a week. The same can be true about this website...if anything it's even more public than facebook b/c at least on facebook, you can adjust your privacy settings. On LIWeddings, you don't even have to be a member to view posts.

Re: Girls please read
Obviously you should be careful who you friend and don't put your phone number and address on your page. But if one of your friends or co-workers was talking to you and asking you what you were doing over the weekend and you were going away, you would probably say so, right? What's the difference? Most crimes, including robbery are committed by someone the victim knows.
I think people should do what they need to do to feel safe, but deleting facebook, twitter or whatever won't fix the fact that some people out there will rob you even if you think they are your friends/good neighbors.
Check out this link. In 1983, someone wrote that answering machines would lead to more robberies because if your machine was on they would know you weren't home. And in 1977, someone said that wedding and funeral announcements shouldn't be in the paper because burglars would know that friends and family of the couple or of the deceased would be at the wedding or funeral.

People freak out about new technology and ways of socializing all the time. Use common sense and you will be safe.
