Gurney's Inn and Spa (a continuation of my previous post)

Thank you to all who sent me congrats!

There were a few questions aboout Gurney's and I thought I would share our experience.
Let's just say when your there you get the feeling of a resort from the 70's-80's, it's not fancy or upscale, however it has upscale prices. My husband planned the trip as a surprise, and he was a little let down b/c he expected more. Our room was nice, it was right on the beach with a private deck and living room area. BUT it was hard to find b/c the place is so big. The service was not that great, and the food was ok (we only had breakfast there). The spa was nice, I had a massage, used the Roman bath, steam room, and locker room facilities. The prices of things were high, and we don't mind paying high prices when it comes with great service. For example, an average drink there was about $7, but you wait forever for the waiter to bring it to you! Another example of poor service- we left our room service tray with an empty champagne bottle and the remainder of our wedding cake outside our room on Saturday night, it was still there on Sunday when we were leaving. To get to our room you had to walk through the main dining room and there was a wedding there Saturday night. I felt so funny walking through their wedding to get to our room. The bride said 'aren't you going to stay and party?' we obviously said no,told them that we share the same wedding day and wished them luck.
I'm not saying Gurney's is the worst and I'd never go back, it needs some updating and their staff should be trained in customer service. Then it would be worth the upscale price. It was a great weekend, we made the best of the bad weather and we had an excellent dinner in East Hampton.

I was in Montauk last week. We stayed at the Panoramic (right next door to Gurneys). I went over to Gurneys and explored...I too was not impressed. It needs some serious updating. Why do they think they can charge so much?

I'm not sure why they have such high prices, but people are paying them! They were not hurting for business...

Re: Gurney's Inn and Spa (a continuation of my previous post)

thanks for the review - I heard similiar info. I think the reason they charge so much is because A they CAN, and B they once had the name and status to back up the prices. Now, they seem to be not worth their high prices.....

Thanks again for your feedback
