Hawaiian honeymoon help

Hi ladies,

Planning the honeymoon has been so difficult for us, but I really think we want to do Hawaii. We're thinking Maui & Kaui w/ a day trip to Oahu. My question is, which accomodations do you recommend? Has anyone stayed at a beach condo? We were thinking that maybe we could save a little by going to a top resort on one island and a lower priced condo on the other? Any advice is very appreciated! Thanks

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

In Maui, we stayed at the Four Seasons Wailea which is awesome. I also recommend the Grand Wailea and the Kea Lani, right next door to the FS. All procy, but it doesn't get better. In Kawaii, the Princeville and the Hyatt Regency are top notch. Unsure of Oahu hotels. Do a search on here for Hawaii hotels. You will get a lot of information.

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

We just returned from Hawaii and we had an awesome time. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Kauai and the Four Seasons in Maui. Both were gorgeous. I absolutely fell in love with the Hyatt in Kauai. I didn't want to leave. It is so beautiful there. the 4S was sonderful too but a totally different feel. They cater to you hand and foot but I felt the atmosphere compared tot he Hyatt in Kauai was cold. I would recommend bithe hotels. The nice thing about the 4S is they don;t nickel and dime you. So check out the activites that are included. E.G Scuba lessons, canoe trip on Sundays, Cabannas, valet parking. Word of advice on Maui. Unless you are into hiking, don't bother with the road to hanna. The end or the road was better than the beginning so if you want a half day something to do I would recommend doing the road from the end. It is more scenic and the four pools sums it up. JMO :)

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

The Kea Lani in Maui was great I would highly recommend it!!!
I also felt the same way about the Hyatt In Kauai it was pretty to look at but the staff was a bit cold , plus depending on what room you get expect up to a 10-15 min walk to you room.It may be worth looking into a different hotel. The travel channel has some great recommendations on hotels on all the Islands and activities.
As for Oahu you may want to do an over night trip , it can be very tiring hopping , so It maybe a good idea to fly in one night stay the following day and the leave that night

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

i stayed in the sheraton on kauai. absolutely beautiful hotel and a lot cheaper than the hyatt. it's in the same area of the island as the hyatt which is extremely convenient to restaurants and shopping. the princeville is gorgeous but sort of isolated on the north shore.

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

I stayed at the Hyatt on both Maui and Kauai. I loved them!!! When my friends went to Hawaii they stayed at the Sheraton on Maui and Kauai. They are beautiful and less expensive than the Hyatts. I don't normally recommend condo's because most of them don't have many restaruants and some don't have any at all so you either eat outside your comlex or you cook in your condo (if you don't mind doing that)

It might be a very long day if you hop over to Oahu from Kauai (Kauai is the closest island from Oahu). Maybe you can go for 1 or 2 nights to Oahu, its not a bad island, has some sightseeing (Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Culture Center, Diamond Head) and the beach is nice there too.

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

Sorry when I wrote my comments it was so fast with a lot of mis-spellings. You know how it is when you are at work. :)

Anyway to make myself clear. I loved the Hyatt. When referencing the Four Seasons I mentioned I felt that the atmosphere there compared to the Hyatt was cold. I had a very pleasant ecpreience at both hotels. The Hyatt is huge so it is true you could walk a bit to your room. But the place is so nice and there are actually short cuts if you try different routes :)

Another note: At both hotels we were upgraded to partial ocean view. We booked garden view. I heard this is common.

In Maui:
If you are going to do a Luau I strongly recommend the Feast at LeLe. It was amazing !!! The food was excellent and the entertainment was wonderful. I heard a lot of people were not happy with the Luau's they went to but this was was Awesome!

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

I stayed at the Princevillle in Kauai. I loved it, but for many reasons why I think other people would prefer the Hyatt more. The hotel itself is beautiful and very elegant, and you can get a good rate if you join Starwood (for free) and then they will probably upgrade you. But it is on the rainier side of the island, but that makes it so much more beautiful. It is more isolated from other hotels. However, a few miles down the road is a town called Hanalei. It is a mix of tourists, locals, and surfers and it's a lot of fun to hang around there as most things are within a few blocks of each other. If you envision yourself poolside a lot, i would definietly do the Hyatt (the Princeville pool is very nice, but it might rain). The beach at the Sheraton was awesome.

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

If you do the a luau on Maui -- you have to do the 'OLD LAHAINA LUAU' We both liked this one better then the one we saw on Oahu.

Here's some information(I copied this from a website)....
'The Old Lahaina Luau - Traditional Hula and Feast
NEWSFLASH: The Old Lahaina Luau is nearly sold out for June and some dates in July. A great alternative is the Feast at Lele ...

The Old Lahaina Luau is not called 'the Best Hawaiian Luau' for nothing. The luau grounds are authentic (see the interactive panorama below), the personal service friendly, the local Hawaiian food divine, and the traditional hula dancing is phenomenal (see the photos and interactive photo slide shows below). Be greeted with a beautiful flower lei upon arrival and step back in time for a night of entertainment journeying through Hawaii's rich past. The luau night begins at sunset with a traditional Hawaiian Imu ceremony, the uncovering of the roast Kalua pig from its underground oven. After a delicious Hawaiian style dinner, relax and take in the energy-filled, pounding rhythms of the live drum band and watch as the island's best luau dancers tell the story of Hawaii through their enchanting hula. No trip to Maui Hawaii is complete without a luau, and none other compares to the Old Lahaina Luau.
Please note that the Old Lahaina Luau assigns the seats on a 'first come - best seated' (see the interactive seating options display below) basis so be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible. Also remember that the Old Lahaina Luau is usually fully booked a couple of weeks in advance, another reason to make your reservations well in advance. '

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

Thanks so much for the advice. I am getting very excited! Which island do you think we should do first-Maui or Kaui? I am thinking about staying at either one of the Hyatt's or the Grand Waillea on one island and then villas on the other to cut costs. Has anyone ever heard about/seen the Hideaway Cove Villas in Poipu? They seemed really nice online. thanks again!

Re: Hawaiian honeymoon help

On Maui, there are alot more activities, sighseeing and shopping...Kauai is more laid back...You can be active on Maui and then relax on Kauai

ETA: go to www.101thingstodo.com its a good website to find things to do on the islands in Hawaii (and other places too)
