Hey, girls with curly hair! UPDATE with pic of what my hair looks like!

I know there are a few of us around ...

I never know what to do with my hair when I go to weddings! Each time I have a wedding coming up, I agonize for weeks about what to do with it and try multiple different things and then the day of ... I HATE it!

So what do you girls do? I don't like my hair to be straight off my face if I can help it. Show me pictures!

I'm at the point where I'm just going to resign myself to getting it done at a salon before the wedding - but it feels so silly to spend that money when I'm not even in the wedding!

ETA here is a picture of what my hair looks like normally ... I literally just ran into the bathroom to take this so please ignore the TOILETS in the background ... winner.

Re: Hey, girls with curly hair!

do you liike to leave your hair down curly??

i was growing my hair before the wedding and it was so evenly shaped that i never left it down. always tied it back. but when i got my NW chop, i went to a curly hair specialist and i love it. so now i have been leaving it down on a regular basis. the look still feels 'new' to me, even tho its been almost 3 months!! just because i spent so many YEARS tying it back.

for special events, i might braid the front pieces and pull the center back. but thats all ive done so far

i am IN a wedding this wknd, andd i plan to go to a salon for an updo. however, i havent decided if im going to straighten it first or let them experiment with the curls

if you dont like leaving your hair down, then maybe you just need a good cut/styling. i know for me it has made a huge difference.

hth

Re: Hey, girls with curly hair!

I do wear my hair down every day ... whenever it's up, I'm either home and in for the night, or I'm having a really bad day.

I have grown to really like my hair as I've gotten older, and I think it looks nice and healthy and I'm OK in that department. I've just always been unsure as far as 'formalizing' it goes ... you know? The best I can do is put it in a ponytail, and then leave a few tendrils out, and maybe wrap a piece of hair around the rubberband so you don't see it. Seriously, that's it ... and I really don't like how I look with my hair pulled back so I don't even bother anymore. The last wedding I went to I just left it down and wore two pins on either side. Snoozefest.

Re: Hey, girls with curly hair! UPDATE with pic of what my hair looks like!

idk just sounds like you are bored. but i think most people - even the non-curlies - go thru the same thing. so i wouldnt stress too much

your hair definitely looks healthy - so thats important!

sometimes something as simple as a different way of parting it makes a big difference? try pulling the top back (ya kno, 'bump it' style), or maybe get some fun accessories. they have been selling really cute headbands lately!!! and some pins. you can do 1/2 up 1/2 down. or if you braid the sides and pull that back? or what about a side pony with a cute flower clip? or a nice twist?

sorry not much help. but i do think everyone goes thru it

No no - you are helping! Thanks. It's always helpful to have someone else's opinion - especially someone who 'gets it,' for lack of a better term.

Thanks!!!

What if you pinned some of the sides back? Something simple...or even one of those fancy headbands?

I just want you to know that I have straight hair and I struggle with this too! I never know what to do for weddings and formal events! (luckily, I don't really go to any formal events so I can stay in my sweatpants with my boring straight hair.)

I have no comment on how to wear your hair. I think it'd look good if you went with a bird's nest in it, so don't ask me.

I just wanted to say how totally CUTE YOU ARE!!!!!!!! I miss you!!! Why are you never on gtalk anymore??? Is it that job of yours keeping you from chatting with me? Because if it is, I'm gonna come raise some hell....

Yep ... Gchat is barely functional nowadays, and when it is, I'm usually not around ... been SO BUSY lately. The only reason I'm not busy right now is because a bunch of people are away today ...

And I loooooooooooooooooooooove you

Re: Hey, girls with curly hair! UPDATE with pic of what my hair looks like!

I have done a number of things. I always think half up is a pretty way to wear it and if you take a curling iron to some of the pulled up pieces and make them smaller curls that would be good. A pretty clip can accessorize it. Sometimes I will pull one side up.

In college I used to put it in a ponytail and then curl some curls with a curling iron and pin them forward on my head. It is hard to do it yourself, but if you can find a friend to curl some hair for you.

I started going to Ouidad to get my hair cut. I have to go to the city and its expensive, but I only go 3 times a year instead of the 6 I had to go here before. They slice it instead of cutting it and its so much more manageable for me. You should try Climate Control from Ouidad its amazing. They also have great styling tips on their website.
