Re: How Much Do You...

Groceries...about $200 - $250 or so/month. Sometimes a little more.

Going out...it depends on the season, really. Summer = more because of birthdays and well, it's summer so we tend to go out more. I guess overall, going out for food and booze = about $200 a month, give or take. We both buy lunch about once a week as well. Other than that, we take from home.

Re: How Much Do You...

We usually spend about $400 a month on groceries. We'll usually do a big shopping trip once a month and spend about $250-$300 and then just get smaller things like eggs, bread, milk, etc. whenever we need it.

We clip coupons and try to go to BJs for our big shopping trip. Honestly, the thing we spend the most money on for food is our dogs!

well this is why I was asking, because i feel like we are doing it all wrong. When we went over our budget and analyzed our spending... we saw that eating out, alcohol and supermarkets trips caused us to spend $800 on food! And we shop sales and don't have an animal!! I almost feel embarrassed... To hear it is realistic to spend $400... now I am determined to try and cut our spending in half. We wanted to reanalyze to make sure that number was correct because we don't believe it... but we do shop once a week and it is usually over $150 a week... BUT... We need to make sure we don't spend more than $450 max....

I guess I have to find cheaper recipes and stop buying the expensive brands of things and find more coupons!! I eat too much. maybe I'd lose some weight if we cut our budget in half!! lol....

I shop mainly at Stop & Shop and Trader Joe's.

We clip coupons and check out the sales before shopping.

There is a small handful of items that for us, MUST be name-brand. Most things, though, we're cool with buying store-brand.

We don't buy soda or sports drinks. We either drink water or booze.

I thought we spent a lot, but I guess we're pretty average. We eat healthy; I do most of the shopping and the rule of thumb for me is: 90% healthy, whole foods, 10% anything else.

Re: How Much Do You...

I prefer fresh, healthy foods too but those are usually the most expensive... I find the fruits and vegetables and fresh chicken to be the three most expensive things we purchase!! Why are fresh foods so expensive, especially when they go bad faster?

Well in all fairness, this doesn't include eating out or alcohol. Not that we go out to a fancy dinner a lot or anything, but we both buy lunch at work and that adds up fast!
